Gallstones Without Symptoms – Surgery Now or Later? 🤔

Many patients discover gallstones during a routine scan—without any pain. They often ask: "Do I need surgery right away?"

🩺 If you're asymptomatic, surgery isn’t always urgent. But here's the risk:
Gallstones can slip into the bile duct and cause pancreatitis—a serious, painful condition that may require prolonged hospitalization and can even lead to complications.

If you’ve been diagnosed with gallstones and have your first attack of pain, consult your surgeon and plan an elective gallbladder removal before things escalate.

Acidity or Gallstones? 🤷‍♀️ Common Confusion in Women

Many women struggle to tell if their pain is from acidity or gallstones. Here's how we differentiate:

🔥 Acidity

Burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen

Reflux after meals

Sour taste in the mouth

🪨 Gallstones (Biliary Colic)

Sudden, sharp pain in the upper abdomen

Often after heavy, oily meals

Pain may radiate to the back or right side

May cause vomiting (not just reflux)

Sometimes severe enough to need hospital pain relief

✅ Best Test: Ultrasound of the abdomen – quick and sensitive for detecting gallstones.

Understanding your symptoms helps in getting the right treatment. Don’t ignore persistent pain!
