Bone broth is often a meal that is seen advised for people with an upset gut.

But sadly it really isn’t that good for gut function and may actually worsen symptoms 😩.

Yes IBS may improve with glutamine supplements but the amount used in research is a huge dose in comparison to what you would find in bone broth.

And a lot of bone broth contains potential FODMAP triggers.

You’re doing everything right…
so why is your gut still not cooperating?

This is one of the most frustrating places to be in.

Eating well
Adding fibre
Drinking enough
Trying to “look after yourself”

And yet…
you feel bloated
your gut won’t move
and it feels like your body just isn’t responding

One of the biggest things I see in clinic is this

People following general health advice
but missing what their body actually needs

Because “healthy” isn’t one-size-fits-all

In this case, her body wasn’t struggling with food

It was struggling with too much physical stress

And instead of needing more restriction
she needed more support

More fuel
More rest
More recovery

This is why food diaries often give no clear answers
and why it can feel like “I can’t eat anything”

✨ For years, her IBS felt… manageable.

Not gone.
Not fully understood.
But predictable enough to live around.

💭 And this is where so many women sit.

You’ve figured out your “safe foods”
You avoid the worst triggers
You just quietly get on with it

⚡️ Until something shifts.

For her, it was perimenopause.

And suddenly…
The foods that used to be fine weren’t anymore
Her bloating ramped up
Her bowels became unpredictable again

Most people with IBS are trying to solve it like a food puzzle 🧩

Find the one trigger
Cut it out
Feel better

But if you’ve been stuck in that cycle for a while, you’ll know it doesn’t quite work like that

You might get some improvement, but it rarely gives you consistent, long-term control

And often, it leads to more restriction, more confusion, and more second-guessing 😵‍💫

Because IBS isn’t just about food

If you only focus on what to remove, you miss the bigger drivers of how your gut is actually functioning

That is where the shift happens

😩 If only it were that simple.

😅 IBS control comes from tackling lots of elements - this can seem overwhelming and is much less attractive to us than having to just remove 1 food or take 1 supplement.

💔 But if you are reading this, you already know this deep down. Because you have already spent months, if not years trying all of these surface level changes with minimal improvements.

🙏 Yes IBS can seem overwhelming but when we tackle these elements we do it in a sustainable way. And realistically it takes about 3 months to take control over what has been impacting you for a very long time so it’s a little work for a lot of pay off.
