WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY DENTIST DAY!!
National Dentist Day is March 6. It’s a day to celebrate and thank your dentist for keeping your mouth in tip-top shape.
Being a dentist is a rewarding job, but it doesn't come without its challenges. While some loyal patients just come in for their routine check-ups, others come to the dentist as a one-time last resort, especially when their dentist specializes in that particular area. When a patient is in pain, they need help and relief, and they need it now. Dealing with patients who are in pain can be difficult, but it’s worth the work when they walk away with a pain-free smile.
Many think dentists are in this profession because it is lucrative. What they don’t realize is that we dentists make most of our money when a patient needs serious work, yet we spend our time encouraging them to avoid it by keeping up with their oral hygiene and regular check-ups. You can imagine our disbelief when patients ignore our prods to floss and brush!
I’m sure other dentists would agree that the best part of our job is giving patients quality care and helping them with any pain, discomfort or aesthetic problem they may have.
In celebration of National Dentist Day, you can do a few things to show your appreciation:
Pay a visit to your dentist! A regular check-up will ensure that you’re on the right track toward maintaining a healthy mouth.
Commit to oral hygiene habits like brushing and flossing regularly
Send your dentist a thoughtful thank you card, or just say “thank you!”

Dr.Toothy's 3 Surprising Ways to Keep Your Teeth Healthy

1. In addition to brushing and flossing, a healthful diet (with natural or added fluoride) protects teeth from decay and keeps the gums healthy. Read on to discover how to keep your smile safe and strong.

2. Tooth decay (cavities and dental caries) and gum disease are caused by colonies of bacteria that constantly coat the teeth with a sticky film called plaque. If plaque is not brushed away, these bacteria break down the sugars and starches in foods to produce acids that wear away the tooth enamel. The plaque also hardens into tartar, which can lead to gum inflammation, or gingivitis.

3. A well-balanced diet provides the minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients essential for healthy teeth and gums. Fluoride, occurring naturally in foods and water, or added to the water supply, can be a powerful tool in fighting decay. It can reduce the rate of cavities by as much as 60 percent.

Dr.Toothy's Dental Tips Today:-

In our life time, we have two sets of teeth: deciduous teeth and permanent teeth. There are 20 deciduous teeth and 32 permanent teeth. Dentine is slightly yellowish in colour. Since enamel in permanent teeth is more transparent than that of deciduous teeth, the colour of dentine shows through more easily in permanent teeth. Therefore, permanent teeth are usually more yellowish when compared to deciduous teeth. Since dentine thickens as we get older, our teeth may become more yellowish with age.

Dr.Toothy's Dental Tips Today:-

1. Brush and floss more frequently.
One of the prime causes of bad breath is plaque.
2. Scrape your tongue.
The coating that normally forms on the tongue can harbor foul-smelling bacteria.
3. Avoid foods that sour your breath.
Onions and garlic are the prime offenders. "Unfortunately, brushing after you eat onions or garlic doesn't help,"
4. Kick the habit.
Bad breath is just one of many reasons not to smoke.
5. Rinse your mouth out.
In addition to freshening your breath, use anti-bacterial mouthwashes
6. Skip after-dinner mints and chew gum instead.
Sugary candies promote the growth of bacteria in your mouth and add to bad breath problems. Instead, chew sugarless gum.
