Due to early loss of baby teeth on both sides of the upper arch a Trans Palatal Arch space maintainer was indicated for this patient in order to maintain the space and prevent the molars from drifting.

I wanted to make it a little bit easier for you which is why I’ve created a mini dental checklist that you can use:

- Existing dental appointments should be upheld.
- Avoid using your teeth to wrap presents.
- Get a small oral hygiene kit for travel.
- Excessive hard candy should be avoided.
- Rinse after consuming holiday beverages.
- Allow your children to carol as they clean.

Enamel hypoplasia is a developmental enamel defect characterized by thin or absent enamel. The defect can occur on part of the tooth surface or the entire tooth. There are many causes and treatments are subjective to the location and severity of the defect.
However, it is important to keep in mind that teeth with this defect can be very sensitive and are at high risk for cavities.

Exposed dentin is the most common cause of sensitive teeth. Dentin is the substance that makes up the interior of your teeth, and it contains tiny nerve endings that, if not protected, can cause sensitivity. Dentin is protected by materials such as enamel. However, enamel can be worn down. But, the good news is - You can take certain measures to try and avoid sensitivity:

- Avoid grinding your teeth.
- Don't over-brush your teeth.
- Start using a soft toothbrush.
- Avoid acidic foods such as citrus fruits and sodas.
- If you have a cracked tooth, get it fixed.
- Teeth whitening should not be overdone because it wears down the enamel.

Tooth sensitivity could also be caused by gum recession. It’s best to come in for a dental consultation and have your teeth/your child’s teeth examined by a dentist every 6 months.

Subgingival calculus are seen on x-rays.

It forms and accumulates under the gums due to a long period of poor oral hygiene. If left untreated, it will cause bone loss and subsequently gum recession. This is why it's important to practice good oral hygiene habits with your kids and see your dentist every six month.

When a baby tooth can't be saved, it is extracted. However, the space needs to be maintained for the adult tooth. In order to do so, a space maintainer is used. There are different types of space maintainers depending on the need and case presented. For example, in this case, the Band and Loop space maintainer was used.
