SGLT2 inhibitors have been proven effective in decreasing progression of kidney disease in diabetic and non diabetic.

UpToDate recommends therapy with a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor both in patients with diabetic kidney disease and those with proteinuric nondiabetic kidney disease. In a meta-analysis of 13 trials and >90,000 participants with chronic kidney disease, heart failure, and/or diabetes, SGLT2 inhibitors reduced the rate of kidney disease progression (defined as a sustained ≥50 percent decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate) compared with placebo, regardless of whether the patient had diabetes.

Screening for syphilis a routine prenatal test; however, false positives can be more common than true positives on initial screening. In a study including over 75,000 pregnancies, 183 of the 221 positive initial screening tests were false positives, and the rate did not differ between traditional algorithms and reverse algorithms.

These findings support the importance of confirmatory testing when initial screening for syphilis in pregnant patients yields a positive test.

It is recommended delaying elective surgery for at least three months, and, if possible, up to nine months, after a stroke to reduce the risk of recurrence.

In a database study including nearly six million patients, the risk of postoperative ischemic was increased eightfold in patients who had a stroke within 30 days before surgery, compared with those who never had a stroke. The risk of recurrent stroke decreased and leveled off for surgery between 60 and 90 days after stroke but remained elevated. We suggest delaying elective surgery for at least three months, and, if possible, up to nine months, after a stroke to reduce the risk of recurrence. The maternal mortality rate in the United States has been increasing, with a shift in the most common causes. A CDC report including over 1,000 maternal deaths from 2017 to 2019 noted that mental health conditions accounted for 23% of deaths, surpassing cardiovascular conditions as the most common cause.
