Afghan Family Guidance Association ABOUT AFGHAN FAMILY GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION – AFGA Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is one of the oldest non-governmental organizations in Afghanistan.

AFGA was set up in 1968, with the aim of providing families, women specially, with sexual and reproductive health counselling and contraceptives. As the country was engulfed by the civil war, AFGA had to cease its activities temporarily, reopening in 2002. In the post-Taliban Afghanistan, AFGA worked alongside the Ministry of Public Health, delivering reproductive and sexual health counselling and services to the Afghan people. Additionally, the organization initiated and implemented activities that empowered women and youth to learn more about and take decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health.

Through the NORAD-3 Project financial support, the AFGA Mobile Health Team (MHT) in Balkh Province provides essential reproductive health services, including ANC, PNC, Family Planning, and OPD, through qualified service providers. AFGA always tries to provide quality reproductive health services to the vulnerable families on their doorsteps.

افغانستان یکی از بزرگان ونیک‌مردان عرصه دانش و طبابت، داکتر محمد معروف سامح، را از دست داد؛ شخصیتی شریف، طبیب انسان‌دوست، صوفی‌منش و استاد با درایت که عمر خویش را وقف خدمت به مردم و درمان بیماران کرد.

داکتر محمد معروف سامح نه تنها یک متخصص ورزیده و کدر توانای کشور بود بلکه یکی از رضاکاران متعهد هییت مدیره انجمن رهنمای خانواده افغان نیز محسوب می شد. نامبرده بیش از ۲۰ سال در سمت های متعدد هییت مدیره افگا ازجمله عضو، معاون و رییس هییت مدیره این نهاد به مردم و وطن مصدر خدمت گردیده است.

بی‌تردید، داکتر محمد معروف سامح از ستون‌های استوار طبابت در افغانستان بودند؛ انسانی خدمت‌گزار، پدری مهربان برای نسل پزشکان، والگویی بی‌بدیل در تعهد علمی و اخلاقی. درگذشت او ضایعه‌ای سنگین برای جامعه پزشکی و علمی افغانستان است.

Afghanistan has lost Dr. Mohammad Maroof Sameh; one of its great men in the field of knowledge and medicine, a noble personality, a humanitarian physician, a Sufi, and a wise teacher who dedicated his life serving the people and treating the patients. Dr. Mohammad Maroof Sameh was not only a skilled and capable gynecologist in the country, but also a committed volunteer on the board of directors of the Afghan Family Guidance Association. He served for more than 20 years in various positions of the AFGA Board of Directors as a member, deputy, and chairperson.

Without a doubt, Dr. Mohammad Maroof Sameh was one of the pillars of medicine in Afghanistan; a servant, a kind father to the medical society, and an unparalleled example of scientific and moral commitment. His passing is a heavy loss for the medical and scientific community of Afghanistan.

The CEO and other senior management team of AFGA had a meeting with the director of Provincial Public Health of Logar province in his office on June 30, 2025. The AFGA delegates briefed the PPHD Director on AFGA services in Logar province and discussed challenges and future plans. The PPHD director said that AFGA FHHs and Mobile Health Teams are providing highly effective services in very remote areas of the province and therefore appreciated AFGA’s contribution in provision of health services in the province. He promised his support to AFGA.

AFGA has 20 service delivery points in Logar province through its different projects.

During 2nd quarter of 2025, the Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) through IPPF financial support and under 60 Family Health Houses (FHHs) across six provinces: Balkh, Parwan, Kapisa, Laghman, Logar, and Paktika, provided a total of 51,629 nutrition services to the clients.
AFGA aims to provide health and nutrition services to the clients in the remote and hard to reach areas of the country.

In May, AFGA through its IPPF Respond-2 Project delivered a total of 36,303 Reproductive Health, psychosocial, and nutrition counselling services through its Family Health Houses (FHHs) and one Family Welfare Center (FWC) in three provinces of Afghanistan (Logar, Kapisa, and Parwan) to vulnerable families, especially women, girls, and children.

Supported by IPPF, the Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) throught its 60 Family Health Houses (FHHs) across six provinces: Balkh, Parwan, Kapisa, Laghman, Logar, and Paktika provides nutrition services including Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP), Nutritional Screening, Outpatient Therapeutic Program for Severe Acute Malnutrition (OPD-SAM), Outpatient Therapeutic Program for Moderate Acute Malnutrition (OPD-MAM), and Nutrition support for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW). In addition, AFGA also distributes Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF), and Super Cereal to malnourished children and mothers.
