Ultrasound Findings in Chronic Renal Parenchymal Disease:
👉kidney Size:In early stage kidney size is usually normal, but in some cases, especially with chronic kidney disease, the kidneys may appear smaller than normal (renal atrophy).
👉kidney shape :may normal or irregular outer contour
👉Cortical Echogenicity:
Increased cortical echogenicity (the kidneys appearing "brighter") can be an early sign of disease.
👉Poor corticomedullary differentiation or Medullary Pyramid Prominence:usually CMD is poor but sometime it looks normal sonographically, and in some cases specially with acute changes
Increased prominence of the medullary pyramids.
👉Abnormal Doppler Findings:
Doppler ultrasound can assess reduced renal vascularity or increased resistance index (RI) values in the interlobular arteries.
👉Other Findings:
Ultrasound can also detect other abnormalities like cysts, masses, or hydronephrosis (swelling due to urine buildup), but these are more likely to be seen in later stages or in specific conditions.
