Our goal is to reduce the chance of reoffending by increasing pro-social reasoning and behaviours and breaking the cycle of intergenerational criminal behaviour. We recognises the hidden harm of imprisonment on inmates, families, in particular on children, and also the impact of imprisonment on intergenerational offending. Imprisonment can impact on families in terms of isolation, stigma, financia
l hardship, deteriorating physical and mental health and difficulties in caring for children. Children may be particularly affected by the loss of a loved one or by changes in their care arrangements. Employment while serving time helps offenders reintegrate successfully into society.
