A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement and is used in prosthetic dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth. Dental implants fuse with the jawbone to form a secure foundation for tooth replacement. The implants are manufactured from biologically neutral pure Titanium that will not cause material related rejection. The categories of dental implants will be selected by the doctor depending on your specific needs and general dental condition. You would require an x-ray and/or CT scan to evaluate the amount of bone remaining, models of your mouth to determine space available and a thorough examination to decide which type of implant can help you the most. There are three basic categories of implants available:
One day Implants: whereby existing teeth is extracted and the implant post placed on during the same surgical visit. Apicoectomy:
A root end surgery, also known as apicoectomy, is an endodontic surgical procedure whereby a tooth's root tip is removed and a root end cavity is prepared and filled with a biocompatible material. This is usually necessitated when a conventional root canal therapy had failed and a re-treatment was already unsuccessful or is not advised. State of the art procedures make use of microsurgical techniques, such as a dental operating microscope, micro instruments, ultrasonic preparation tips and calcium-silicate based filling materials. Root Canal Treatment:
Root canal is also a colloquial term for a dental operation, endodontic therapy, wherein the pulp is cleaned out, the space disinfected and then filled. In the situation that a tooth is considered so threatened (because of decay, cracking, etc.) that future infection is considered likely or inevitable, a pulpectomy, removal of the pulp tissue, is advisable to prevent such infection. Usually, some inflammation and/or infection is already present within or below the tooth. To cure the infection and save the tooth, the dentist drills into the pulp chamber and removes the infected pulp by scraping it out of the root canals. Once this is done, the dentist fills the cavity with an inert material and seals up the opening. With the removal of nerves and blood supply from the tooth, it is best that the tooth is fitted with crown; this increases the prognosis of the tooth by six times. Other Treatments:
