Ardha Matsyendrasana in Iyengar Yoga is a powerful seated twist, deeply rooted in yogic mythology and therapeutic wisdom 🧙♂️ Mythological Story Behind the Name
The story goes like this:
• Shiva, the first yogi, was once teaching yoga on the seashore. As he explained the secrets of yoga to Parvati, a fish nearby listened attentively.
• That fish, filled with devotion and stillness, absorbed the teachings fully.
• With Shiva’s grace, the fish was transformed into a siddha yogi named Matsyendra (“lord of the fish”).
• He became a great master, and his teachings eventually led to the birth of Hatha Yoga.
This story reminds us that any being—when fully attentive—can receive the highest wisdom.
