Larisa, our volunteer, has completed her project. Read her reflections below.
“As my long-term volunteering program in Murcia, Spain comes to an end, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions. It has truly been an incredible journey full of beautiful, challenging, and unforgettable moments. Each one of them holds a special place in my heart and will forever be remembered as one of the best experiences of my life.
When I first began this program, I had many questions and doubts, just like anyone would when stepping into something unknown and new. I wondered what my volunteering tasks would be, where I would live, whether I’d get along with my roommates, and so on. But the reality turned out to be even better than I could have imagined.
I thoroughly enjoyed my volunteering role at a bookstore, and my roommates and I quickly became very close. This project taught us to appreciate every moment in a unique way. We made it a point to enjoy each day to the fullest, spending time with all the volunteers and creating memories that will stay with us forever. There were so many memorable moments, countless inside jokes, shared adventures, deep conversations, and spontaneous plans that it’s almost impossible to name just a few. Each day brought something new, and somehow, even the ordinary moments became extraordinary because we were experiencing them together.
Of course, not everything was perfect or went smoothly all the time, but every challenge was manageable, and in the end, those moments only added to the richness of the experience.
Saying goodbye is never easy, but in our case, it feels even harder. Over time, we didn’t just become friends, we became a big, warm, and supportive family.”
