Did you know? The surname Fernández as well as Hernández have their origin in the name Ferrán, which means a fierce warrior, derived from the Celtic word "Har", translated as war and power. Although in regions such as Catalonia it retains its name of Ferrán, in other parts of Spain and even in our country Ferrán is simply Fernando.

In the Coat of Arms that represents this surname, you can see a vert oak and in front of its trunk, a lion that has a sable wolf in its claws. The lion symbolizes the warrior spirit, adorned by the qualities of vigilance, dominance, sovereignty, majesty and bravery.

🗓️ December 18th - International Migrants Day.
Argentina is one of the countries that was formed in the heat of migratory waves between the 19th and 20th centuries. Most of them were Europeans. According to the first national census of 1869, there were 220,000 foreigners, representing 12.1% of the population and by 1920 it is estimated that half of the population residing in the City of Buenos Aires had not been born in the country.

Argentina es uno de los países que se formó al calor de las olas migratorias entre los siglos XIX y XX. Europeos en su mayoría, según el primer censo nacional de 1869, había 220mil extranjeros, que representaban el 12.1% de la población y hacia 1920 se calcula que la mitad de la población residente en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires no había nacido en el país.

Today is celebrated in our country the National Day of Tango, a musical genre and a dance that identifies mainly the city of Buenos Aires but forms a seal of identity for all Argentines. In Batres we would like to share the birth certificate of the emblematic Carlos Gardel, who is still being discussed today as to whether he is Argentine, Uruguayan or French.

Hoy se celebra en nuestro país el Día Nacional del Tango, un género musical y una danza que identifica a la Ciudad de Buenos Aires principalmente y que conforma un sello identitario para todos los argentinos. En Batres queremos compartir la partida de nacimiento del emblemático Carlos Gardel, sobre quien al día de hoy se sigue discutiendo si es argentino, uruguayo o francés.

Today we share Elsa's story. We had the pleasure of meeting her in connection with genealogical research, by linking Elsa with her family in Italy. Our call surprised her; although she knew her family's place of origin, she was unaware that she still had relatives there.

In 2021, Elsa turned 98 years old, even though she remains young and vital. Elsa is the longest living person we have located in our research work. We celebrate Elsa's life and family. It fills us with joy to be able to share her story.!

Tuvimos el placer de conocerla en relación a una investigación genealógica que la vinculaba con su familia en Italia. A Elsa la tomó por sorpresa nuestro llamado; si bien conocía el lugar de origen de su familia desconocía que aún tenía familiares allí.

En 2021 Elsa cumplió sus jóvenes y vitales 98 años, y es la persona más longeva que hemos localizado en nuestras investigaciones.

¡Celebramos la vida de Elsa y su familia, y nos llena de alegría poder compartir su historia!

Eva María Duarte, better known as Evita, was born in Los Toldos, province of Buenos Aires, on May 7, 1919 and was baptized on November 21 of the same year. An actress and later a prominent first lady and Argentine politician, she is known for her commitment to the working classes and for promoting a groundbreaking expansion of minority rights in Argentina, such as women's suffrage in 1947, among other achievements. Even today her legacy remains in part of society and culture and she is remembered to this day in films, novels and musicals.

On the day of her baptism, we share the historical record.

Eva María Duarte, más conocida como Evita nació en Los Toldos, provincia de Buenos Aires, el 7 de mayo de 1919 y fue bautizada el 21 de noviembre del mismo año. Actriz y luego destacada política argentina, es reconocida por su compromiso con las clases populares y por impulsar una novedosa ampliación de los derechos a las minorías en Argentina, como el sufragio femenino en 1947, entre otros logros. Aún hoy su legado permanece en parte de la sociedad y de la cultura y se la recuerda hasta hoy en películas, novelas y musicales.
