Jewish Love Story (part 2)
When the cemetery administrator worker told me he knew where her husband was, the first thing I thought of was, it's not the first time such coincidences, have appeared in our work.
We immediately started walking through the cemetery. He has walked around this cemetery for over 30 years. He was sure he could find her husband.
As we were walking, he started to explain to me, that this couple were the only two people to be buried without the traditional stone carved headstones. They wanted to be unique by having the only two wooden carved planks in the entire cemetery as headstones.
Finally, he remembered where it was located, and I could feel this comfort within me, that this is no coincidence, that I did not just leave the cemetery accepting that he was not buried here.
This individual, was the son of an important Rabi, who fled from Europe with his family, and this one son, who left his family to settle in Argentina, and with his new family made his way over to Santiago, Chile. He had the reputation of the black sheep of the family when it came to being apart of the jewish community. Having known this, I thought maybe he didn't want to be buried among his peers. And was on my way to the municipal cemetery to investigate there.
When it comes to genealogy, we truly believe that our ancestors want to be found. They want their story to live on. And with this couple, wanted their unique love story to continue, and not fade with these wooden planks... Had I not mentioned to the Cemetery worker that the headstone carvings were unrecognizable because of the sun cracking the wood, and just walking away, we would not be here standing in front of the person we were searching for.
Again, the wood for his headstone was worn and hardly unreadable, but we were able to decipher and read exactly who it was. We had found our guy!!
Our ancestors have a way of letting us know they are watching!
We thought it was a great way to honor their love story by sharing this experience on Valentines day. We were truly honored that we could be apart of finding these two individuals and extend their story...
