Meet Leonie - 23, medical student, and part of Dr. Giera’s team for the last two weeks.

Like many young doctors in training, she realized that lipedema is barely mentioned in medical school, even though it deeply affects the lives of so many women.

During her internship, she saw firsthand that lipedema is not about aesthetics.
It’s about chronic pain, limitations in daily life, and the emotional weight that often comes with years of feeling misunderstood.

Seeing patients return for their second surgeries — pain-free, active again, wearing boots for the first time in decades, changed the way she thinks about her future in medicine.

Her biggest wish?
More awareness. More education. More compassion.
Because lipedema is real, and its impact is life-changing.
