We’re beyond excited to welcome Charlotte to our Support Coordination crew, specialising in psychosocial recovery 💙

Charlotte has been busy making a real difference — recently facilitating a mental health support group for people navigating life with disability. She’s also about to complete her Diploma in Mental Health and is keen to progress on to her Bachelor’s Degree! 🎓

Her passion, warmth and infectious smile have already brightened our office — and we can’t wait for you all to meet her! 💫

Need a Break? 🌿 Let’s Talk Short-Term Respite!

✨ Have you read the latest respite guide from the NDIS? Released October 2025, it is packed with the what, how and why of short-term respite — and it’s a game-changer for planning ahead.

Short-term respite gives you and your loved ones time to recharge. 💜
It allows you to be supported by someone else while your primary informal supports — like family or friends — take a very well-deserved break.

✅ Funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) for up to 14 days at a time (and 28 days per year)
✅ Can take place in a respite home, short stay rental, hotel, or even your own home
✅ Covers personal care and support so that your routine continues smoothly
✅ Helps sustain your support network and build your independence

Meals and transport are no longer a standard inclusion, and should be discussed in advance with your service provider prior to signing your respite agreement..

“Meals cannot be included in the daily rate if you’re staying in respite in an individual setting”

Meals not included in the daily rate are to be paid out of your own pocket. Food and groceries are a day-to-day cost and are not an NDIS support.

Activities are also not NDIS funded supports and therefore providers are not to claim for things such as tickets or covering the cost of participants social activities during respite.

Short-term respite isn’t a holiday — it’s a way to maintain balance, wellbeing, and quality of care for everyone involved.

New Event coming to Geelong! 📣

Join Down Syndrome Australia for a Geelong family day to celebrate the launch of the Geelong Regional Project, proudly funded through the generosity of Freemasons Cosmopolitan Lodge No. 96.

In March 2025, the Lodge hosted a fantastic event that raised significant funds to support people with Down syndrome and their families across Geelong and the surrounding Barwon region.

These funds will support the delivery of activities that build community connections and create exciting opportunities for people with Down syndrome over the next two years.

Let’s come together to celebrate this incredible initiative.

🎨 Exciting News from COSY Coordination! 🎨

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new Art Therapy Program starting this November, facilitated by our qualified Counsellor Jacqueline McKenzie! 💛

Each week, participants will explore creativity through art — including drawing, painting, colour, and texture — as a pathway to emotional regulation, self-expression, and healing.

Funded under NDIS supports, this program is designed to empower individuals to connect, reflect, and grow in a safe and supportive environment. 🌿

It’s Invisible Disabilities Week (19–25 October)! 🌻

Around 80–85% of people with a disability have one that isn’t visible. These include neurological, cognitive, sensory, mental health, and chronic conditions that aren’t always immediately apparent.

Not all disabilities are visible — but a little understanding and kindness can go a long way in making everyone feel seen and supported.

🌟 Today Cosy Coordination attended the Werribee Community Disability Expo, sponsored by Sovereign Lives Victoria.

Today was made possible with the support of Help at Hand Support Services.

This free community event brought together people living with disability, their families, carers, support workers, and providers — all connecting to share knowledge, resources, and support. 💙

We loved meeting new faces, catching up with local providers, and being part of such an inspiring day that celebrated community and inclusion.
