The European Foregut Society (EFS) is a young and unique international organization dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary knowledge, innovation, and clinical excellence in the field of foregut diseases.

As the flagship event of the Society, the 6th EFS Annual Meeting will take place from 11–13 November 2026 at the new Kinderspital Innovation Center in Zurich, bringing together leading surgeons, gastroenterologists, researchers, ENT specialists, physiologists, dietitians, and key industry partners from across Europe and beyond.

The surgical management of hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) remains a subject of ongoing discussion, particularly regarding indications and the optimal choice of surgical technique. With tailored approaches to surgery receiving increased attention, the Congress aims to review current innovations in endoscopic and surgical therapies for GERD and hiatal hernia.

🚨 Call for Collaborators – Multicenter Retrospective Study on Hiatal Mesh Shapes in Paraesophageal Hernia Repair 🚨

Dear colleagues,

We are excited to launch a multicenter retrospective study investigating how different hiatal mesh configurations influence outcomes in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) paraesophageal hernia repair.

🔎 Study focus
Posterior mesh placement 🆚 Keyhole / circumferential mesh configurations

We will evaluate their impact on hernia recurrence, considering:
⚙️ Surgical approach (laparoscopic vs. robotic)
🧵 Mesh material and fixation strategy
🪡 Hiatoplasty type and configuration
📊 Subgroup analyses across participating centers

🇪🇺 The project is conducted under the patronage of the European Foregut Society (EFS)

📆 Data collection
Opening January 2026 → Closing April 2026

👥 Authorship
Collaborative authorship is available for all contributing centers. Your participation will contribute to advancing the understanding of hiatal reinforcement and improving patient outcomes across Europe and beyond.

The Congress in Athens, held from November 5 to 7, brought together participants from 25 countries and offered three days of outstanding lectures, inspiring discussions, and new friendships.

A great atmosphere and high scientific standards marked another successful edition of the Congress.
