7️⃣"RPP1.3/Equipment/best use including simulation" (R. Kickuth)
https://library.cirse.org/cirse2024/crs/rpp-1-3-equipment-best-use-including-simulatio

This session emphasizes the critical importance of radiation protection in interventional radiology. It highlights the need for regular training and briefings, as well as the use of key protective tools such as shielding devices and advanced systems like the zero-gravity setup. Real-time dosimetry increases awareness among staff, providing immediate feedback to help minimize exposure. The session also showcases how VR simulations can be used before interventions to predict dose distribution and optimize settings – such as fluoroscopy or radiation field positioning – ultimately reducing patient and staff exposure while maintaining procedural effectiveness.

6️⃣"Electrochemotherapy in central liver lesions" (A. Kovács)
https://library.cirse.org/ecio2023/crs/341-6-electrochemotherapy-in-central-liver-lesion

This video-learning session provides a clear overview of electrochemotherapy, including patient selection, procedural considerations, and its application to central liver lesions. The step-by-step video format makes it easy to follow, showing the essential components and what to watch for during the procedure. It also highlights key tools and techniques that help ensure success and minimize complications, such as navigation systems for precise electrode placement and ECG gating to prevent cardiac issues.

https://library.cirse.org/ecio2023/crs/153-3-ablation-tools-for-liver-tumours-rfa-microwave-ire-cryo-multipolar-and-monopolar

This lecture gives a clear overview of the different ablation tools for liver tumors, including cryoablation, RFA, microwave, and IRE. Each method is explained in simple terms, making it easy for professionals, but also for students to understand. It highlights the wide range of available procedures and shows that choosing the right one can be challenging, as each case requires a different approach.

3️⃣"Trauma in children: when might IR be needed?" (A. Cohen)
https://library.cirse.org/et2025/crs/151-1-trauma-in-children-when-might-ir-be-neede

This lecture explores the unique challenges IRs face when managing trauma in children. It highlights the need for specialized or adapted equipment suitable for the pediatric population and discusses how growing bodies can make procedures more complex, especially when permanent devices may be needed later in life. The session emphasizes important communications such as minimizing radiation exposure, ensuring safe use of general anesthesia, and providing emotional support not only to the young patients but also to their families throughout the process.

2️⃣"Communication skills for doctors" (V. Rafailidis)
https://library.cirse.org/cirse2024/crs/124-1-communication-skills-for-doctors

This session emphasizes the vital role of communication skills in medical practice, especially in interventional radiology where patients are often awake during the procedures. It covers different types of communication and how patients may perceive them, providing optimized guidelines for clear and compassionate interaction. The talk stresses the importance of adapting communication for patients with hearing or visual impairments or those who are uncooperative – always without judgement. It outlines the key communications steps before, during and after the procedures to help patients feel safe and calm. Effective communication improves cooperation, outcomes, and recovery and although there may be limitations, it remains a cornerstone of patient care. The session concludes that communication training should be a stronger focus in medical education, as it is an essential part of every doctor’s practice.

https://library.cirse.org/cirse2024/crs/116-2-the-magic-of-i

This inspiring lecture showcases the remarkable impact of interventional radiology on patients' lives, no matter how big or small. It highlights how IR improves quality of life in both children and adults through minimally invasive procedures that can make a huge difference with minimal recovery time. The talk also explores how IR specialists contribute beyond patient care – designing and improving the materials and tools used daily, to better meet both patient and physician needs. It emphasizes continuous innovation within the field, as IRs adapt techniques to new areas of the body and collaborate across specialties to enhance outcomes. Through real inspiring patient cases, the lecture beautifully illustrates how IR transforms lives and supports families, truly capturing the “magic” of this evolving specialty.
