A very important message about toxic cyber critics who enjoy demeaning and criticising you on Social Media. It's no different to emotionally immature schoolyard bullying.

Demeaning and criticising someone via your keyboard will always be the coward's way because it's done without accountability for the consequences of your actions. If you have a legitimate gripe, speak to the person directly so they can respect your feedback.

We need to do better at finding compassion for, respecting, and looking after each other. I try very hard to do this with my wonderful clients. Thank you to all the beautiful clients I have had the privilege of assisting over the last 10 years.

Have you got an evacuation plan for your precious working dogs, be they herding or livestock guardian dogs?!

Four hours. Four kilometres. Two people and six working dogs brought to safety. Using only what was around them and a bit of quick thinking.

In floodwaters near Kempsey, In-water crew's set off on a 4km round trip with nothing but the gear they had on hand.

They reached two stricken adults, and found six working dogs also trapped and needing rescue. With no time to waste, they tore down a bamboo fence, grabbed some rope, and improvised a raft towing the dogs behind their boat as they began the long journey back. As darkness fell, a drone’s spotlight became their guide through the flooded bush to the safety point.

Flood affected residents are urged to stay alert and avoid entering floodwaters, which remain dangerous.

I couldn’t have asked for a more engaged and supportive audience for this presentation on Livestock Guardian Dogs, in Bridgetown in Western Australia on Saturday 10th May.

We were hosted by Raquel & Murray of "Galloway Springs" in their fabulous, converted shearing shed. What an awesome venue! It was supposed to be a 2hour event which included Q&A, but we were still chatting 4hours later.

The attendees ranged from a Veterinarian, to devoted LGD practitioners with diverse interests who are already doing very well, to representatives of livestock groups, and you may recognise Blythe Calnan who has been a contestant on the most recent “Muster Dogs, Collies & Kelpies” TV series. Some of these attendees drove anywhere from 1-4hours away to attend. That’s commitment and dedication and I am always happy to listen to and share my knowledge with these devoted LGD practitioners. Thank you all for coming!

Innovating Predator Control in Australian Agriculture

Livestock Guardian Dogs Australia, promotes the use of Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) to prevent livestock predation in Australia. This is the first time that a service offering the practical day to day problem solving and expertise in the use of LGDs has been offered to Australian farmers who are prepared to commit to this strategy via workshops, field trips, consultancy services and most importantly, ongoing support. It is the day to day practicalities that can determine the success or failure of this strategy for the farmer and acquiring the requisite skills and understanding are critical to that success.

Erin is passionate about this innovative and highly effective strategy and offers practical help to farmers who feel they are in a hopeless spiral of stock and financial losses, economic uncertainty and mental stress. She recently explained her motivation -

“When I heard of yet another farmer taking their life as a result of the devastation of livestock predation on their operation, I decided someone had to take up this challenge and reach out to these people. I am hoping that this initiative will help to relieve those feelings of desperation amongst affected farmers and their communities.”

This highly effective strategy can not only save a livestock enterprise from financial ruin, there are also so many spin-off benefits for improving mental health for farming families and their rural communities. Let’s not waste this opportunity.
