I am writing to congratulate Communication Extra and in particular Isobel Quinlin who in my experience in dealings with your company has always gone out of her way for her clients. She has always done the 1% that a lot of companies that I have dealt with do not do.
She always puts the client first, ensures that all of their personal needs and requirements are met. Further she genuinely cares about the outcomes and always ensures the outcomes are what the client actually require and in particular actually need. She has always gone above and beyond and for this I congratulate her.
This experience with Isobel has made my collaboration with Communication Extra a really smooth and enjoyable one and I highly recommend this company from both an internal and external customer prospective.
Thank you

Changes to NDIS from May 19th, 2025
Transcript:
đĄ Hello
We have something new to tell you about how NDIS plans work from May 19th, if you get a NEW plan.
𧊠Whatâs changing?
If you get a new plan (not just an extension), your support hours or money will come in smaller parts over time, not all at once.
These parts are called funding periods.
Imagine you have a big box of 40 hours of support. You used to get the whole box at once. Now, you get your hours in smaller boxesâbit by bit.
đ What are funding periods?
Think of it like this:
You have 40 hours of support for the year.
Instead of getting all 40 hours on Day 1, NDIS gives you:
âĄď¸ 10 hours for the first 3 months
âĄď¸ 10 hours for the next 3 months
âĄď¸ 10 hours for the next 3 months
âĄď¸ And 10 hours for the last 3 months
That still adds up to 40 hours â you just get them in smaller boxes throughout the year.
đ What if you donât use all your hours?
Good news! If you donât use all your hours in one box, they roll over into the next one.
Letâs say in the first 3 months, you only used 8 hours.
You still have 2 hours left.
In the next 3 months, youâll have 12 hours to use!
But be carefulâyou can't carry hours into a new plan once the old one ends.
đ Who can see these periods?
In your NDIS online account (called the NDIS portal), these smaller boxes (funding periods) can be seen by:
- You and your family
- Your Plan Manager
- Your Support Coordinator
𧞠What about claiming support?
You can only claim support from the current funding box.
So, if a support crosses into two boxes, it might need to be split into two claims.
And if you try to claim more than whatâs in the box, the NDIS will say âNo!â until the next box opens.
đŤ Can we move hours from one box to another?
Nope! You canât shuffle hours between the boxes.
But if your needs change (like you need more help), you can ask NDIS for a plan reassessment.
You can also ask them to change how often you get your boxes (like monthly instead of every 3 months).

We love this review from a client -
"I want to acknowledge the incredible work youâre doing. You bring such passion and dedication, and I mentioned to the NDIS in a recent phone call that I believe you are a real asset for the Deaf community."

I have been working with deaf people for just about all my working life. I also have travelled extensively around the world, and lived in London, the UK, for nearly 20 years, before moving back to Australia over 4 years ago.
I also have worked with Deaf people and attended Deaf events around the world, and have worked in a range of roles, and this includes the senior management of services to deaf people, and people working with deaf people.
My different experiences have given me a great insight into deaf culture and the needs of deaf people, no matter where they live or what they do.
After I returned to Australia, I worked in a range of different roles, all directly related to the NDIS. I have worked on both sides of the âfenceâ as a Planner at the NDIS, and with 2 NDIS service providers.
Armed with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the NDIS and on deafness in general, I decided to take the plunge and set up my own business - Communication Extra!
Some of you have asked me what my logo means, and what the name of my business means.
Simple!
The 3 hands depict 3 people reaching out to each other:
1) the client
2) the support coordinator,
3) the service provider.
In this relationship, everyone is equal. No-one is more important than the others. Everyone has Choice and Control, especially the client.
Imagine the 3 hands are holding onto each other. This means that services and supports are passing through each of them to the others. If one of the hands lets go, that means that a decision about choice and control has been made and everyone is free to move on and follow their own paths.
Also the hands depict Sign Language, whether it is Auslan or some other form of visual communication using the hands.
As for the name âCommunication Extraâ. Communication â I believe in open communication with everyone.
And for âExtraâ â I offer something extra! I am one of only a very few independent Support Coordinators in Australia specialising in working with deaf people.
