Happy International Day of Yoga 🕉️ I stopped doing yoga and instead I try to live, breathe, and embody yoga everyday in my thoughts, speech, and actions. It’s the filter on how I view myself, others, and the world. It’s the vibration underneath how I care and love others. It’s imbibed in my core values and beliefs. It’s woven into the fabric of my divine being. Even when I’m not teaching, yoga philosophy is expressed and emitted through me. The teachings are timeless, spaceless, boundless; they are eternal and transformational. I am the expression of who I am now in this life because I discovered yoga and because I choose a spiritual path. The practice starts on the mat and continues off in your daily interactions and through your very humanness. Next week I’m returning to Vipassana, this time at Montebello in Quebec. It’s been 3.5 years since my last meditation course and retreat and the call to return was too strong to ignore. I dedicate my practice to the benefit and liberation of all living beings 🙏

I have this ritual at the end of most years to allow one word to arise from the depths of my soul’s experience in that chapter of time. Oftentimes this follows journaling and meditating on my word for the year. It can take me days to settle on just one word since either a dearth of words or plethora emerges but after a few years of this practice, I find there is pleasure in this process and patiently waiting. My words for the last few years were ACCEPTANCE, EMBRACE, and RADIANCE and the ink of these words has continued their imprints on my living experience.

The word that shimmered to the surface of my consciousness for 2023 is INDEPENDENCE. While I encountered some resistance to this word at first, I can sense that she’s the right one to capture my vibration for 2023. Last year was my second year living abroad and it was a full chapter of solo travels and experiences. I’m in a happy, healthy, stable couple and still I was able to tread independently along my own path towards the places and moments that were calling me. Independence is one of my core values and practices and it’s become even more important to me with age, maturity, and moving away from Australia. As an adult who had struggled earlier in life with the ills of insecure attachment, codependency, and perfectionism but who also craved freedom, it’s fitting that in my mid-30s, independence has grown up from the roots of my soul and the chapters of my 20s.

I’m grateful to 2023 for reminding me of the importance of autonomy, self-reliance, and freedom to the life I am boldly writing into existence this time around. I’m grateful for a year to practice and embody the state and experience of independence alongside connectivity with people, community, and home. Of course, I traversed challenges and low moments in this last year too (like breaking my arm) but they were temporary (like everything) and this theme of independence had me skipping into 2024 via the route of a wholesome solo week at Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland. I can’t wait to discover what word and theme will emerge for me in this next year.

What’s your word for 2023?

About Letitia - yoga teaching and therapy

Letitia is a patient, compassionate, gentle yoga teacher and therapist. She actively practices authenticity and vulnerability choosing to claim space for herself and others to be seen and felt.

Having completed her yoga teacher training in 2018, what she may lack in years of teaching and practicing the asanas, she makes up in warmth, enthusiasm, effort, and consistency. Letitia teaches and counsels with the same lightness and joy that she espouses in her everyday life. Letitia has worked as a counsellor, therapist, mentor, and case manager in various settings with individuals and groups of all different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. She combines her training in psychology and social sciences with her interest in spirituality and yogic philosophy.

Letitia’s gift is to listen, guide and give you an intimate space to be you; to reflect, learn, heal, and emerge freer than you were before. She has an innate curiosity and desire to understand your inner and outward experience. Her ability to ask questions often facilitates exploration, insight, and a deeper consciousness. Letitia does this through teaching yoga and through working with individuals using various psychotherapies, art-based therapy, and mentoring embedded strongly with strengths and growth-mindset approaches. In her yoga classes and therapy sessions, you will feel encouraged, empowered, and lovingly nurtured.

Letitia whole-heartedly believes we are here to serve others using our innate gifts and embodying our purpose. Contact Letitia to find out more: acornyogaandtherapy@gmail.com.
