The Prime Minister's launch of a new National Centre for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse is recognised and welcomed by THINKWISE Disability.

We expect that a considerable emphasis will be placed on preventing abuse, developing knowledge and competence, and raising awareness of the serious consequences of child s*x abuse on individuals, families, and communities.

In recognition of the third anniversary of the National Apology to Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse, we are so proud that the Commonwealth Government has named the Blue Knot Foundation, the Healing Foundation and Australian Childhood Foundation as the consortium selected to establish and run the new National Centre for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.
As announced by the Prime Minister, it is a significant investment for the Commonwealth Government to commit $22.5 million over the next five years to fund the operations of the National Centre as a response to one of the key recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

These three leading national charities have come together to form an Australian first partnership that will commission critical research, raise community awareness, reduce stigma, and provide training to support improved responses to victims and survivors of child s*xual abuse and decrease the risk of it occurring in the first place.
This once in a generation opportunity will strengthen the ways that the communities understand, respond to and prevent child s*xual abuse. The National Centre will also inform and promote strategies which reduce the harm that child s*xual abuse causes to individuals, families and communities.

Collectively, we look forward to keeping Australia informed about the progress of the National Centre.
