Hello, my dear friends,

“The goal of Qigong is to enhance the quality of your life, by teaching yourself ways to open your energy channels and maintain balance.”- Born a Healer

Qigong says, everyone’s body has a network of energy channels running through it. When the channels are open and lots of energy is flowing freely through them, the body works wonderfully: you are healthy, happy, and peaceful.

When the channels get blocked (say, through stress and emotions, poor nutrition, injuries, and so on), energy cannot flow freely and begins to become imbalanced – too much here, too little there. In time, this shows up in the body, as what we call “sickness” or “disease.”

What all of the Spring Forest Qigong movements, meditations, and techniques you practice come down to is... opening channels and balancing energy. This helps the energy to transform in ways that help your healing. That’s it!

Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin

Hello, my dear friends,

Life is for happiness.

Anger, hatred, sadness, depression, anxiety, suffering, fighting, negative thoughts, etc., can only bring unhappiness to you and diminish the beauty of your life.

Smiling, loving, forgiveness, and kindness bring happiness to you and add more value to your life.

When you let go of anger and fighting, you feel so free spiritually, physically, and mentally, too.

Life is really so short.

Wouldn't you rather choose to experience more good things in your life, instead of spending unreplaceable time focusing on anger, depression, and sadness?

When unhappy things come, consider this as a chance to learn from the past and help you grow.

Say "thank you" to the unhappy things for bringing you to this moment of awareness and then Let go of the past. Hope for the future.

It rains today, it shines tomorrow; but the universe stays the same. Let go of the unbearable sorrows and just be yourself.

Then you will discover the true value of your life--the true value of being a human being. Open yourself to the universe. Then you will have peace of mind.

Choose Happiness my friend

Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin

Autumn Health Tips from Chinese Medicine

The best way to stay healthy according to Chinese medicine, is to learn about the nature of each season and live in harmony with it.

Autumn is the time when leaves fall to the ground, begin to decompose to create a fertile ground, and leave the potential for growth for the spring. Similarly, the human body naturally wants to pare down, introvert, and begin a season of focused energy.

In traditional Chinese medicine, autumn is associated with the Lungs, it is linked to the metal element which is characterized by the colour white. To us and to others who feel the effects of seasonal changes, autumn can also be linked to the emotions of grief and sadness.

Traditional Chinese medicine is a form of therapy for the entire body, mind, and spirit. I have this concept that the body holds onto pain and negative emotions just like the mind holds onto thoughts. Just as psychotherapy helps the mind release tension, acupuncture helps the body release toxic emotions and memories as well.

Someone once described the lungs as a tree in the rainforest that needs moisture to thrive, as the image of a tree situated upside down in the chest filtering oxygen from the air and expelling CO2. The lungs are the rhythm maker of the body and set the pace for the entire body’s movement.

If you are prone to lung weaknesses, like asthma or breathing problems or skin conditions like eczema, they might worsen in autumn, which is a great time to pop into the clinic for acupuncture to strengthen the lung.

In addition to addressing these elements, nutritional aspects to Chinese medicine offer everyday solutions to allow the flow of movement through the body.

LUNG QI IS NOURISHED BY CONSUMING:
• Pears
• Water Chestnuts
• Cauliflower (looks like a tree)
• Lotus root (looks like alveoli)
• Almonds
These herbs and spices are good for the lungs: bay leaves, caraway seeds, cardamom, chives, cinnamon, cloves, dill, fennel, leek, oregano, nutmeg, rosemary, thyme, and turmeric.

TO REDUCE PHLEGM:
Eat more building foods than summertime, such as proteins, meats, fish, dairy, nuts, beans, seeds and gluten-free grains. But not too much as these foods also cause dampness.
Avoid Foods that Cause Dampness (Fluid & mucus congestion)
Avoid wheat which causes dampness.
Avoid sugars, fruit juices, processed foods and refined flours, which cause premature aging and dampness.
Avoid cold foods or drinks, dairy, and fried foods, which cause dampness.

Warm Foods are best in Autumn
• Eat warm foods like bone broth, stews, soups, and hot gluten-free cereals.
• Eat beans, such as lentils, kidney beans, adzuki beans, always well soaked.

In General, use this season to sleep a little longer, eat warm nourishing foods and turn inwards. Because the metal element within us gives us our sense of self-worth, this is the time to give ourselves some extra attention and self-love, we can be content inside and know that we have (and always have had) everything we need to be complete, perfect beings.

Acupuncture for anxiety
Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent of psychiatric disorders. It’s been said that nearly 30% of the world’s population will suffer from symptoms of anxiety at least once in their lifetime, regardless of their gender, age, or stage of life.
Symptoms of anxiety include restlessness, rapid heartbeat, upset stomach, difficulty concentrating, headache, irritability, sleeplessness, fatigue, sweating, and muscle tension.
Acupuncturists have been helping people feel more balanced for thousands of years. In the Western world, acupuncture has been growing in popularity because of the research that has been released that supports its efficacy and success rate, especially for anxiety and other mental illnesses. It works by assisting the nervous system achieve balance, alleviating stress and anxiety symptoms. It’s been reported that acupuncture can give individual rapid results, however, like any treatment, results and the number of sessions will vary from person to person. Some people report immediate improvements but most notice subtle and gradual changes with repeated visits
How does acupuncture for stress and anxiety work?

In ancient Chinese medicine, an energy called Qi (or the chemical reactions that constantly fire throughout our bodies) is said to regulate the overall health of the body, moving through pathways called meridians. If Qi’s flow is disturbed or blocked in any way (for example due to injury, poor eating habits/nutrition, stress, or any other discomfort), that’s when we begin to suffer. The practice of acupuncture – the insertion of needles in specific points throughout the body – is the acupuncturist’s way of restoring Qi’s balance, therefore promoting better health and getting relief for the patient.

Needles are inserted to regulating those joy-making neurostransmitters in your brain, and decrease the markers of stress and lower blood pressure (which assists in overall anxiety treatment) they also do the following:

- Alleviate migraines or other headaches
- Decrease the severity of hot flashes in women going through menopause
- Alleviate seasonal allergy symptoms
- Treat acid reflux disease
- Soothe heartburn by regulating acid secretion and aiding digestion
- Boost the immune system
- Relieve lower back pain for up to six months
- Help obesity sufferers lose up to 10 lbs. over two weeks to four months

Is acupuncture for anxiety safe?

Acupuncture is considered a safe procedure. In 2001, the British Medical Journal gathered 34,000 treatment reports over one month and released that no serious problems were found. Another study revealed that only 671 minor issues were reported (including minor bleeding or pain at the needle site) in over 10,000 acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture for anxiety is safe and trusted, but if you are suffering from moderate to severe depression, it’s best that you continue to see a medical or mental health professional before starting acupuncture. If you are currently in talk therapy and/or taking prescription medication to alleviate your symptoms of anxiety, it’s also beneficial that you seek the advice of your doctor before reducing or stopping your current treatment plan.

How often should you come in for acupuncture for anxiety treatments?

Because everyone’s symptoms and situations are different, your treatment plan won’t look like anyone else’s. It will depend on you and whether you require acute, transitional or maintenance care.

Acute here is for if you’ve suffered an injury recently, or if you’re having an acute flare-up of a condition you previously had that’s been in remission for a while. Acute care is generally more aggressive, meaning you should expect to come in once or twice a week for the first two weeks. While it’s common to feel relief in as few as one to two sessions, it doesn’t mean that all of your symptoms are guaranteed to go away this quickly.

Transitional care is when you’ve achieved comfort, but you find that your symptoms are coming back. That means you need to come in just before you start getting uncomfortable again.

Before long, you’ll find yourself in the maintenance phase. This is when you come in every eight weeks to three months to keep up your health and keep your symptoms at bay.

Most patients find their acupuncture visits to be extremely therapeutic, and some even fall asleep during the session. Acupuncture aims to make the body well, you’ll benefit from an overall increase in health.
If you decide to give acupuncture a try, make sure to find an experienced, certified acupuncturist.
Keep in mind that acupuncture is most effective for anxiety over the course of several weeks of treatment.
