What does a Dietitian do?
Malnutrition edition 🧃🥤
Today we're looking at how dietitians can help people with malnutrition, a condition resulting from not meeting the body's nutritional needs over time. There are many reasons why someone may struggle to get enough nutrition, such as:
😷 Symptoms like low appetite, nausea or constipation that make eating unpleasant
👩⚕️ Medical conditions like cancer or kidney failure that increase the amount of nutrition you need
🧑🍳 Cost of food, shopping or cooking difficulties
🧑⚕️ Conditions that affect how the body absorbs nutrients from food
If you know someone whose weight has changed unexpectedly, whose appetite or food intake has changed, or who has become unwell and struggles to eat or drink, encourage them to seek support from their GP and a Dietitian so they can find out what is going on, and put strategies in place to stay well nourished 🥑
