The question that is always foremost in my mind when treating a client is: What is the actual cause of this pain, tension, or issue? Sometimes the source is obvious, while at other times it can be subtle, originating from a completely different part of the body. Additionally, emotional or energetic factors may play a role.
For example: Middle and Lower back pain may be cause by tight Re**us Abdominal muscles. The chart below shows how active trigger points on the Re**us Abdominis (six pack muscles on the diagram on the right hand side of the picture) corresponds with Mid and Lower back pain (red area shown on the left hand side of the picture.
If you can imagine those muscles at the front pulling tight and pulling you slightly forward and hunched, you could see how it would create tension (and/or pain) in your Mid and Lower back.
No amount of massage, manipulation etc. on the back is going to fix the problem. You have to release the Re**us Abs.
And even then, my question would be: Why are they tight?π§
Is it bc they did a mad Ab workout at the gym?
Is it bc the person was lifting something heavy (like a toddler!), or is it bc they are so stressed or anxious that their stomach is in knots?
Or, even something that happened long ago that left them with that fear response?
You see, it can be quite different to what one may think at first observation.
That's part of why I love Bowen Therapy, we treat the body in a wholistic way. Another reason is that working with the fascia it's so effective! β¨
