After 12 incredible years at Thorne Harbour Health, CEO Simon Ruth will be stepping down next month.

Since joining the (then) Victorian AIDS Council in 2013, Simon has led our organisation through a time of extraordinary growth — expanding our work from HIV response to supporting the broader health and wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ communities across Victoria, South Australia and beyond.

We’re deeply grateful for Simon’s leadership and unwavering commitment to our communities.

Bi+ people are the largest part of our LGBTIQ+ communities.

Yet too often, visibility and recognition are a struggle.

Today we’re saying loud and clear: our services must reflect bi+ people — through inclusive language, safer spaces, and breaking assumptions.

The work continues every day, but today especially: we see you. 💜

We’ve just launched Innovate — our second Reconciliation Action Plan.

In Victoria, we marked the launch with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony led by local Elders. In South Australia, we’ll continue this journey with our own ceremony, respecting local cultural practices and ensuring our RAP is grounded in the diverse communities where we work.

This RAP sets out practical steps to embed reconciliation into our everyday work, including:

🖤 Hosting and participating in NAIDOC Week & National Reconciliation Week
💛 Offering free THH memberships to Rainbow Mob at key times
❤ Embedding anti-racism and cultural learning across our organisation
💚 Creating an Aboriginal recruitment and professional development strategy
💙 Continuing our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Educator role

But this plan is also about the bigger picture — making reconciliation central to who we are and ensuring our services are culturally safe across both Victoria and South Australia.

At Thorne Harbour, Rainbow Mob are a vital part of our communities, and their culture and leadership should be celebrated in everything we do.

This week we’re joining Jean Hailes in celebrating Women’s Health Week – a reminder for all women to put their health first.

At Thorne Harbour, we recognise that women’s health also means supporting q***r women’s health. From inclusive sexual health screening to mental health care that understands LGBTIQ+ experiences, these conversations are part of the broader picture of women’s wellbeing.

Do you work in lived experience roles?

Come along to this Community of Practice, and hear from our therapeutic team!

We'll discuss the importance of lived experience, and how it informs the work across our organisaton.

We are thrilled to invite members of the LGBTIQA+ community who are working in designated Lived Experience roles (both paid and voluntary) to join us for our second LGBTIQA+ Lived Experience Community of Practice.

This initiative is funded by Adelaide PHN as part of the LGBTIQA+ Su***de Prevention Capacity Building Project. This space has been co-designed by and for people in the LGBTIQA+ community who are working in designated Lived Experience roles, whether paid or voluntary.

It’s a space to connect, learn and grow together in our unique roles, where our lived experiences are not only valid but valued as expertise. To kick us off, we will be joined by an incredible panel of Adelaide’s LGBTIQA+ trailblazers for a Q&A session. Come along and hear their stories, wisdom and insights as we reflect on where we have come from and where we are going.

Let’s build something meaningful together, register now via Eventbrite👇
