This week we’re joining Jean Hailes in celebrating Women’s Health Week – a reminder for all women to put their health first.

At Thorne Harbour, we recognise that women’s health also means supporting q***r women’s health. From inclusive sexual health screening to mental health care that understands LGBTIQ+ experiences, these conversations are part of the broader picture of women’s wellbeing.

Do you work in lived experience roles?

Come along to this Community of Practice, and hear from our therapeutic team!

We'll discuss the importance of lived experience, and how it informs the work across our organisaton.

We are thrilled to invite members of the LGBTIQA+ community who are working in designated Lived Experience roles (both paid and voluntary) to join us for our second LGBTIQA+ Lived Experience Community of Practice.

This initiative is funded by Adelaide PHN as part of the LGBTIQA+ Su***de Prevention Capacity Building Project. This space has been co-designed by and for people in the LGBTIQA+ community who are working in designated Lived Experience roles, whether paid or voluntary.

It’s a space to connect, learn and grow together in our unique roles, where our lived experiences are not only valid but valued as expertise. To kick us off, we will be joined by an incredible panel of Adelaide’s LGBTIQA+ trailblazers for a Q&A session. Come along and hear their stories, wisdom and insights as we reflect on where we have come from and where we are going.

Let’s build something meaningful together, register now via Eventbrite👇

We're proudly supporting Wear it Purple today!

This year’s theme Bold Voices, Bright Futures is brought to life through the incredible artwork of Lee Evatt (he/they), a transgender and q***r artist based on Ngunnawal Country.

To q***r youth: you are seen, supported and celebrated for who you are.

We welcome the news of former West Coast player Mitch Brown becoming the first openly bisexual man in AFL history. It's an important step in addressing longstanding negative attitudes and discrimination against gay and bisexual men in Aussie Rules Football.

Help Write the Book on HIV in South Australia 📚

Writing Ourselves In is a year-long project led by Thorne Harbour Health to document and celebrate the history of HIV in South Australia — and we’re inviting community members to get involved in one of three key ways:

🔴 PLHIV aged 50+
Join a monthly workshop series to share your lived experience and develop skills in oral history, archival research, and writing. No prior experience needed — just your voice.

🟠 Younger PLHIV
Take on a supporting role: assist with research, listen to community stories, and help preserve this powerful legacy for future generations.

🟡 Story & Archive Contributors
Got old photos, documents, flyers, or memories to share? We’re collecting materials from across the community to help shape the final work.

At the end of the project, all of this work will come together in a professionally published book, launched in 2026.

🗓️ First workshop: Friday 8 August 2025, 11am–3pm
📍 57 Hyde Street, Adelaide (lunch provided)

🛜 Can't make it in person? Online workshop: Thu 21 Aug 6.30-7.30PM

We co-hosted a powerful Refugee Week yarning circle with AMRC and PEACE, fostering connection and shared strength among multicultural communities. 🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈

Participants said cultural safety was truly felt!

15/07/2025

We are looking for volunteers to facilitate Sustainable Style and make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ people, and people living with HIV (PLHIV).

We want to build the capacity for six community members who will take on the role of peer leaders for the project. Volunteers will undertake fully funded training in cultural safety and inclusion, first aid, food safety, and basic machine maintenance.

Read more at the link in the comments or email THHSA@thorneharbour.org with a brief note on why you’d like to volunteer and your availability.
