Calling all stations in Central Aus and the Barkly! 🔔 🐂

The RFDS is seeking expressions of interest from eligible cattle stations to participate in our upcoming Virtual Emergency Care Trial.

The trial will test new portable 'virtual care backpacks' and fixed 'virtual care cabinets', giving station staff direct access to 24/7 clinicians using video consultation and remote diagnostic tools. 🩺 🖥️

Huge congratulations to our very own Caitlyn Reid and Kylie Pellizzari who were recognised at SA Health's 2026 SA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards this month. 👏

🤰 Caitlyn took home the win in the 'Excellence in Practice – Midwife' category – testament to the care and compassion she brings to our patients every day.

🧑‍🏫 Kylie was a finalist in the 'Excellence in Education' category – recognition of her exceptional leadership in training our flight crews.

We celebrate all the incredible nurses and midwives across the health system. These awards recognise the dedication, expertise and compassion they bring every day. 💚

Holy cow... that's a big donation! 🐄

A huge thank you to our friends at Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic for their generous donation at their annual event last week.

💬 “When anyone of that age goes out in the middle of nowhere, you do have concerns.”

For avid traveler Ron Wilson, hitting the road and heading out bush in his caravan is the ultimate bliss. But this time last year, he almost didn’t make it home.

Ron had mysteriously passed out in his caravan – unconscious and alone. His family sat waiting nearly 2,000km away.

Luckily for Ron, he met some other travellers days earlier, and their concern for his safety meant the police and then the Flying Doctor were on their way.

We rapidly assembled a team with a critical care doctor, flight nurse and pilot, and started locating the closest airstrip to Ron.

Ratna’s son Muhammad was born prematurely at 31 weeks with a rare brain condition, but the hospital that could help him was over 1,000 km away.

Before long, the RFDS was flying Ratna and her son to Adelaide – with a flight nurse providing midwifery support to keep them both safe.

Growing up in Indonesia, Ratna couldn't fathom needing to use an aircraft to reach medical care.

Little Daisy was very brave on her recent flight with us after a bump to the head over the Easter weekend.

🦉 Luckily, we had room for one more passenger so her toy owl could come along for the ride, too.

New map unlocked! 🗺️

Our Community Health Team landed in Parachilna as part of our ‘bush run’ fly-in clinics for the very first time last week.

Thanks to the town’s newly upgraded airstrip, our multi-disciplinary crew can now deliver care to the doorstep of another outback community.

Shout out to the Prairie Hotel for the extra special hospitality!

The airstrip upgrades were made possible by the Outback Communities Authority, SA Government, Australian Government and local community groups who advocated to get these projects on the ground.
