After a full day of group supervision with our PTSA team we decided to celebrate the milestone of 6.5 years in business with some axe throwing fun!

We had many laughs and fierce competition between Lucas, Hazan, Darcy, Renae, Dannielle, Hafizah and Rose and we need to go back to verse those missing (Sallie, Megan, Tessa, Jess and Sharni) and to show them how skilled we now are!

On a personal note: I am very grateful and privileged to work with such a remarkable team. PTSA would not be where it is without these amazing people (and those that came before), each person has had an impact on me personally and the business as a whole and I see plenty more excitement and fun in our future! ### Renae ❤️♥️💙💜💛

We would like to share a heartfelt article about our Director, Renae. The kindest words have been written, and we couldn't be prouder!

Our clients leave a profound mark on us, just as we strive to do for them. It is truly an honor to be a part of their healing and growth journeys.

A special shoutout to Jasmine* for her amazing progress, which wouldn't have been possible without Margaret*. Margaret’s unwavering commitment, bringing Jasmine to her weekly sessions, and her everyday display of unconditional love, empathy, and authenticity, played a crucial role in Jasmine’s success and growth.

😍 We love splose, it has been a huge part of our growth and success so far and we look forward to all of the exciting features to come.

🤩 (*splose is our client management system, it's how our service agreements, reminder texts and invoices are sent and stored)

It got to the point where I had to engage an admin assistant to create, send and follow up invoices all manually which took up hours every day, and that was for invoicing alone.

Let's play: A GOOD, A BAD and A FUNNY

We love this family connection activity!

💚 It shows kids that good and bad things can happen in the same day and it doesn't have to ruin the day.
💙It can increase kids ability to wait, take turns and listen to others.
🩷It lets kids see into YOUR day, increasing their empathy and understanding of your experiences.
💜 Reduces the direct-question pressure kids often feel from parent's questing (you'll find they share more freely and you get an incite into their lives).
💛Finishes on a laugh, something we all need!

🏠It can be played in the car on the way home from school, over dinner sitting at the table or at bedtime as a good-night routine.

⭐️Which ever you choose, it can become part of your family connection time and your kids will request it time and time again!

Say hello to Lucas, one of our awesome Senior Play Therapists! 👋

Like every play therapist on our team, Lucas loves helping kids express themselves through play. He finds it fascinating how their stories unfold in the playroom, and uses tools like the sand tray to gain a deeper understanding of their world.

When Lucas isn't busy with play therapy sessions, you might find him spiking a volleyball or whipping up a delicious new recipe!

So nice to have you on the team, Lucas!

Tantrums, meltdowns, the shouting...Ever feel at your wit's end? Play therapy can be amazing for helping your child understand and control their big emotions.
Here's how it works:

🧸️ Safe Space: Play therapy creates an environment where kids feel comfortable expressing themselves freely.

🧸️ Play = Their Language: Children naturally communicate through play. Therapists use this to understand a child's inner world.

🧸️ Learning Skills: Therapists guide play activities to help kids label emotions, develop coping mechanisms, and practice calming techniques.

🧸️ Happier Kids, Happier Families: With emotional regulation skills, kids gain control, confidence, and better manage difficult feelings.

Playtime = self-discovery time! ✨

Ever wonder what goes on inside your little one's mind?
Play therapy can help them unlock their inner world! Through playful exploration, kids gain self-awareness and insight into their emotions, thoughts, and experiences.

Play therapy is a fun and safe space for your child to:

🚀 Explore their feelings in a non-judgmental environment.
🚀 Understand what makes them tick and why they react the way they do.
🚀 Develop coping skills to navigate challenging emotions.
🚀 Build confidence and self-esteem by discovering their strengths.

It isn't just about having fun (although that's important too!), it's about helping your child grow into their best self.

Wondering how long play therapy takes for your little one?

Every child is unique, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer! Most kiddos thrive with 20 sessions, but some need more or less. ✨ We closely monitor their progress through play and check-ins with parents to ensure they're getting the most out of it.

Sometimes, taking a break for a term and seeing how they manage on their own can be helpful before diving back in. This allows us to tailor the therapy journey to their specific needs.

Remember, play therapy is a journey, not a race. We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.

Ever wondered why children love playtime so much? It's not just fun and games (although that's definitely a perk!). Play therapy actually unlocks a superpower: safe and expressive emotional exploration for them. ✨

Here's the magic:

🧸️ Creative canvas: Toys and activities become tools for kids to paint their feelings, from joy to sadness, without words.

🧸️ Safe space: Play therapy provides a judgment-free zone where kids can explore difficult emotions without fear.

🧸️ Building blocks: Through play, kids develop coping mechanisms, self-awareness, and healthy ways to express themselves.

Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, grief, trauma, or ADHD, play therapy can be a powerful tool for their emotional growth.

So, how long might it take? ⏳

For many children, an average of 12-20 sessions can be helpful. But remember, this is just a guide, not a rule! Some may need more time, while others might surprise you with their progress.

The key is trusting the process. Your therapist will work closely with you and your child to ensure they're getting the support they need, for as long as they need it.

Parents often wonder - how is play therapy different than just playtime?

As a Registered Play Therapist, I want to assure you it's far more than just fun games. This method is backed by extensive research showing the brain science behind why it works. 🧠

Our approach is tailored to meet kids where they are emotionally and developmentally, using child-led play to build coping skills, process complex feelings, reduce anxiety, and work through emotional wounds in ways talk-based therapy cannot.

So while it looks like 'just play', our specific therapy techniques and our years of training make our sessions anything but regular playtime!

The science is clear on the benefits - let me know in the comments if you have any other questions. 🧸

Wondering when you can talk to your child's therapist? 🤔

We get it - you likely have questions or concerns. Out of respect for your child's safe space, we ask that you avoid discussing them in front of your child before or after sessions. Instead, email your therapist directly for time-sensitive issues or wait for periodic parent update sessions, where we'll share progress and you can ask questions, all without your child present.

This allows us to minimize conversations about your child in their presence and maintain play therapy as their safe, judgement-free zone.

A sneak peek at what play therapy looks like with us 👀

First, we meet with parents to get the full picture. Then, it's playtime! Your child will join the therapist for 45-minute sessions packed with activities that meet them where they're at. After every 5 sessions, we circle back with you to discuss progress while protecting confidentiality.

The number of sessions varies, but averages 20-30. When we've reached the end of your child's therapeutic journey, we take time to say goodbye in a healthy way. Even when play therapy ends, our door is always open should your child need support again!

This step-by-step process is how we empower the healing and growth that happens through play.
