Happy Friday 🐞🍁🪵 https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BQk8S2FCk/
When you are parenting a Neurodivergent child, you get UNFORTUNATELY used to some things. Like....
Being told your child is too messy and too undisciplined.
That they're LOUD.
That they fidget unnecessarily.
And that shouldn't offer their opinions so freely.

Honestly...it's enough to make you feel like Miss Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice.
(Take a Moment. I know many of you need to picture Mr. Darcy's swimming scene)

But sometimes it just takes a tiny hint of being truly SEEN and UNDERSTOOD and VALUED, to make all the difference.
And I hope that is something you can find on my page.

I would like to officially invite all the parents of kids who....
Lack same age (or any) friends
Have a pocket full of rocks
Sit "weird"
Don't keep their shoes on, and don't even know where they LEFT their shoes
Often pretend they are cats
Struggle with self regulation
Talk endlessly about Pokemon, The Titanic, Ancient Egypt, obscure Animals, or Video Games
Eat mostly processed foods
Don't really know how to play with other kids unless there are clear rules
Will only tolerate one texture of clothing
Have never been a "teacher's pet"
Refuse to brush their hair
Carry stuffed animals everywhere
Have a deep sense of social justice, that requires you to be on guard for inequities
Insist on bringing sticks home from the park
Can't follow 2 or 3 part instructions unless it's something they are interested in
Repeat themselves over and over
Don't get invited to parties
Have never managed to ride a bike or do a forward crawl, in the pool
Elope from uncomfortable situations
Have no sense of time
Struggle to write their name
Listen to the same song on repeat for hours
Still sleep in mom's bed at age 10 or 15
..Or never seem to sleep at all
Need to be reminded to eat and bathe
Prefer animals to people
Like to line up or sort their toys
Stop talking when they get stressed
Collapse with angst after school, from emotional burnout
Perseverate on one topic for hours
Get lost in Hyperfocus...
And have talents nobody has tapped into because everyone seems obsessed with making kids
CONFORM to standards that would BREAK THEM.

And now that you know it.... please tag some OTHER pages in the comments, that help you to feel seen or valued.
Maybe they are about Neurodivergence or Parenting.
Maybe they are about your passion, hobby, or social justice interest.
Let's help each other to find BELONGING.
