👏 South Australia’s standing as the Defence State continues to grow, with another major milestone achieved on the Hunter class frigate program at Osborne Naval Shipyard.

BAE Systems Australia's Manufacturing Engineering team, with support from local engineering, operations, supply chain and equipment suppliers, has successfully completed the first installation of Category A major platform equipment on Ship 1, with the fin stabiliser baseplate in place.

This milestone is a powerful example of South Australian innovation and sovereign capability, and it's just the beginning, with a strong pipeline of naval shipbuilding projects ahead.

Last week, our Executive Director Defence and Industry, Ian Spencer, travelled to Clare to host a targeted industry briefing in collaboration with Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North.

The session showcased the growing potential for regional businesses to engage with the defence sector, with support from the Department of State Development, Office for Defence Industry Support (ODIS), Defence Teaming Centre, and defence primes ASC Pty Ltd, Saab Australia and Multiplex.

It was a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to hear directly from government and industry representatives about procurement processes, support services and workforce initiatives, before connecting one-on-one during a networking session.

🏁 The countdown is on! In just a few days, the Fusion Racing Team from Charles Campbell College will take the global stage at the World Finals in Singapore.

Sasha, a year 10 student and the team’s graphic designer and sponsorship manager, shared:

“We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve created and even more proud of the personal and academic growth each team member has achieved. But above all, we’re most proud to represent Australia at an event as esteemed as the World Finals. Whether we stand on the podium or not, we’ll be smiling, knowing how far we’ve come. We hope to make you proud, Australia!”

👏 Huge congratulations to the team for reaching the World Finals. This is a remarkable achievement and we wish you every success in Singapore.

Defence SA has been a proud sponsor of the Fusion Racing Team.
