THANK YOU!
After 15 years at Mt Barker Hospital, Thursday was my last operating list. Miranda, Nicole, Kylie ran the theatre, Andrew and James did anaesthesia and Rinnie (my current fellow) assisted. As usual it was great work by all.
It has been a pleasure offering care to patients from the Hills, Fleurieu and beyond, thank you to all those that have supported me in this.
Congratulations to Kylie Schultz (soon to be first lady of Mt Barker) for winning "Survivor Mt Barker" the only one left in theatres since my commencing there, I have been outlasted, outwitted and outplayed - Well done Kylie. Special mention to Emma for lasting long enough to be runner up and to Esther "the Cakemaster" who made an amazing cheesecake for the farewell at my last list, uncharacteristically finishing second as most popular dessert after my Pavlova! I'm finishing the last piece in the photo.

It is with great sadness that we farewell such an esteemed colleague and true gentleman.

Dr Aronow was a gracious host to the Australian Surgeons as the guest nation at AOFAS 2024 in Vancouver. As President of the Australian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Dr Stavrou was fortunate to work with Dr Aronow during his Presidency.

He will be sorely missed by many.

While 2024 brought its own challenges, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my patients, my incredible GP referral network, and my professional colleagues for their continued support. I especially wish to thank my hard-working staff, but in particular Peta my PA. Her unwavering dedication and care truly make her the heart of this business, and I am forever grateful for all she does to keep things running seamlessly.

Dr Stavrou was thrilled to catch up with Dr Johnny Lau, his supervisor during his fellowship year at The University of Toronto during the recent AOFAS Annual Meeting.

As well as two of his own fellows, Dr Matthew Lewington and Dr Gil Genuth.

Australia leads the world in monitoring outcomes of total ankle replacements through the National Joint Replacement Registry, based in Adelaide.

Dr Stavrou was honoured to be invited to speak about his role at the Registry at AOFAS 2024 Annual Meeting in Vancouver.

He spoke of the importance of Registries, their role in improved patient outcomes and safety, as well as education for surgeons and community.

Dr Stavrou recently attended the 2024 American Orthopaedic Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada. It was a great opportunity to expand on knowledge and see new technologies from colleagues all over the world.

Did you know that the foot is a complex mechanical structure, which is composed of 33 joints, 26 bones, and more than a hundred muscles, tendons, and ligaments that all work together to bear weight, allow for locomotion, and transmit force.

What is patient specific knee replacement? Because no two knee joints are exactly alike, Dr Stavrou uses the latest imaging technology to create a joint specifically tailored for the patient. This ultimately improves outcomes for patients and gets them on their feet quicker.
