We are heartbroken, and furious by Tim Nicholls MP in this decision. This is in direct contradiction to the AusPATH guidelines for care of minors and of nearly every peak medical and mental health body across Australia and globally. The October 2024 Sax Institute report for the NSW Govt also contradicts this action!
Please be kind to yourselves, reach out to services such as QLife Australia if needed, and donβt forget to contact Minister Nichollsβ office and share your feedback about this cruel decision against the care of children and their families.

Today the Queensland Government announced an immediate block on hormone treatments for new gender dysphoria patients under 18. This means that puberty blockers and cross s*x hormones will no longer be prescribed to new patients with immediate effect.
Queensland Health Minister Tim Nicholls announced the pause alongside a review into the evidence for stage one and two hormone therapies for children with gender dysphoria. The ban will remain in place until the review is concluded and assessed.
Queensland is now an outlier state. This extreme position from the Queensland Government will have catastrophic impacts on the health and wellbeing of trans and gender diverse young people.
This decision is at odds with expert consensus from around the world, health services in every other state and territory and the current evidence base.
Trans and gender diverse young people deserve access to the health care they need, without interference from politicians.
