Weight loss medications are a temporary solution.
They reduce your appetite so you cut back food maybe eating 1-2 meals per day which results in weight loss.
The issue with this is:
- eating 1-2 meals per day will lead to weight loss yes but that means muscle loss which isn’t a great thing
-while you’re on the medication your appetite is suppressed but once you come off, your normal appetite returns
-it doesn’t allow you to eat with your natural hunger and fullness cues
- eating less means you won’t be meeting your macro and micronutrient requirements
- it doesn’t teach you how to eat, once you stop, you may simply go back to your old way of eating
- weight loss doesn’t always mean health gain
- it doesn’t solve the issues you may have been facing prior to going on the medication Eg emotional or stress eating, sugar cravings, lack of time, motivation etc
- there can be negative side effects including nausea, vomiting and gut issues.
- it results in a weight loss weight regain cycle
So, if you’re thinking of going on a weight loss injections or are on one, I highly recommend seeing an accredited practicing dietitian at the same time.
