“How much should my newborn be sleeping?” It’s one of the most common questions new parents ask.

Most babies will sleep between 14 and 20 hours a day, though every child is different. Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility–affiliated paediatrician Dr Sanjay Sinhal explains that what matters most is that your baby is well-fed, content and sleeping safely.

To encourage healthy sleep, Dr Sanjay highlights the importance of safe sleep practices: place your baby on a flat surface, on their back, and in a cot in your room for the first 6–12 months. These simple steps reduce risks and create a safe environment for your baby, and greater peace of mind for you.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to honour little lives lost too soon.

On Tuesday, October 15, the Adelobs team invites our community to join us at the Red Tree Foundation’s Wave of Light Walk, a free community event beginning at Adelaide Oval (Pinky Flat East) and finishing at Barr Smith Walk, Convention Centre Lawns.

At 7:00pm, candles will be lit as part of a global Wave of Light, creating a continuous tribute around the world. For the first time, Adelaide Oval will be illuminated in red in honour of this important cause.
🕯️ Dress code: Wear Red
🕯️ Candles will be provided

This gentle evening is open to all South Australians, whether you are honouring your own little life, that of a family member, friend, or colleague, or simply standing in support.

Together, we can light up the night in remembrance, love and solidarity.

If you plan to attend, please register via this link: https://wave-of-light.redtreefoundation.org.au/?fbclid=IwY2xjawNJmxFleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFMM1NoMVliR2JVdkt6QkZLAR5zmsPShpZbsznE_L9l4MEM-YrMw5DVVeKwmDhyvmJA6P-Imvg33oDjTLcSHA_aem_GzetOI-hRfgNabI77wHTPg

Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility delivers babies exclusively at Ashford Hospital. Our patients benefit from the supportive care and the peace of mind of a Level 5 Nursery.

Most women will stay for four or five nights after their delivery. This is a wonderful opportunity to rest, enjoy the home-style food and start learning how to care for your new baby, with guidance from the friendly and highly-trained staff who are available 24/7.

Adelaide Obstetrics & Fertility–affiliated paediatrician Dr Sanjay Sinhal explains how new parents can tell if their baby is getting enough milk in those first few days.

A well-fed baby will be settled and start to produce more nappies by the end of the first week, while weight will first drop slightly then return to birth weight by two weeks.

As feeding increases, nappies also change from darker to lighter colours, a clear sign your baby is getting what they need.
