After a warm summer week, the rain is a welcome pause. It is a gentle reminder that slowing down can be restorative, both for people and for nature.

As the landscape takes in the rain, we are encouraging our community to take things gently, adjust plans where needed, and prioritise comfort and safety.

We love seeing inclusive arts and community events at Adelaide Fringe. Kymbo’s Variety Spectacular is a great example.

The show features improv, circus, music, dance and comedy, with performers representing disability, First Nations, LGBTQ+ and CALD communities.

Accessibility and inclusion:

- Suitable for audiences with limited English

🌻 What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a sign you can wear to let others know you have a disability that may not be seen.
It shows that you might need more time, support or understanding.

You can wear the sunflower in shops, on transport, at work, or in public places.

Just because you cannot see someone’s disability, does not mean it isn’t there.

This includes:
• Autism or ADHD
• Sensory issues (like noise or light sensitivity)
• Mental health conditions (like anxiety or depression)
• Pain or tiredness that won’t go away
• Problems with hearing or seeing
• Breathing or heart problems
• Diabetes or epilepsy

These disabilities can be permanent, temporary, or come and go.

• You may need help
• You may need more time
• You may need kindness and understanding

Have you heard about the National Assistance Card? It's now available for people with autism and people with brain injury across the country.

The card helps a person communicate their unique needs. This is useful for daily tasks, like shopping, or in emergencies.

Cardholders can list the impacts of their disability on the card. They can also add more details to the QR code by adding a written message or recorded video.

Current cardholders report that the card gives them more confidence and independence. It makes them feel more comfortable accessing services in the community.

At Care & Venture Disability Support Services, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the Adelaide Fringe, and we’re here to help make that happen!

3) Auslan Interpreting: Available at selected performances. Confirm with venues.

5) Carer & Companion Tickets: Discounted or free tickets for carers.

6) Sensory-Friendly Performances: Reduced sensory overload for those sensitive to bright lights or loud sounds.
