Modern Ayurvedic will be moving at the end of March and as you know it’s been a journey to find MA’s new home…

In the coming days I will be emailing clients my humble clinic’s new address that will be in effect from 1st of April. This process has taught me many, many things. I have gained such insight into what I wish for in a space, how I yearn for it to feel, how it will serve my clients but also how it serves myself and a future family.

It’s a year for big life things, Modern Ayurvedics, and I thank you all for being patient with me whilst I found MA’s next landing place.

This process has clarified my goal to find a more permanent, purpose-built space that I can co-habit with carefully selected practitioners that help amplify MA. A place Modern Ayurvedic can truly call home, and a stable space of my own for many years to come. Knowing this is one thing, but allowing the timing to unfold at its own pace is another. And whilst I have full faith that what I am seeking is seeking me too, the timing hasn’t quite aligned with the ending of my current lease in Goodwood.

Thus, the quest for a more temporary landing place for Modern Ayurvedic has consumed me for the past few weeks, and I am so grateful that wheels are finally in motion. A charming Ayurvedic studio out the back of a clinic run by a well-known Ayurvedic doctor, where oils and smells are lovingly welcomed and encouraged. I’m excited to give it little MA touches, and I hope you all feel the decades-worth of Ayurvedic energy that this property has accrued over time. I hope to learn more from this wise-woman and Ayurvedic doctor during this time, and maybe some of you will, too.

I’m excited for the rest of the year to unfold. And I thank you again for being on this journey with me.

Had the most soul-enriching time in Sri Lanka for five nights of rejuvenating therapies, food and care. To be held by Ayurveda in this way, no matter where in the world, always feels like coming home to me. Such a timely experience with so much change of late and to come. To be immersed in ‘my world’ again and to experience the soul-deep knowing once more was exactly what I needed to take with me into this year ahead. And it was the perfect way to prepare for the wedding of all weddings - of our darling Lauren and Danny, the King and Queen of Spring 🌼

PSA ❣️ book in for a skin check

Last month I went to a plastic surgeon to have a mole removed (scar on left shoulder). I almost put it off as I didn’t want to miss out on too much work or have a big scar for my wedding in August. My loved ones know me as the girl who will always opt-out of the sun on my skin rather than opt-in. I’m not the girl who will lay out at the beach for hours on end. I know I don’t tan, so I don’t try to.

But on Christmas Eve I was told that, in fact, this mole was a melanoma in situ (stage 0 - confined to epidermis) and I was lucky to catch it so early.

Rattled, I booked myself in for another full skin check at the start of January, and my practitioner said to come back in two weeks for further surgery after finding three more moles she didn’t like the look of.

So yesterday I had two more moles off my back and one on the top of my right thigh. None looked particularly odd at first glance, but under a microscope they were clearly abnormal.

Now we wait to see what the biopsies say. I’m told I’ll need three-monthly skin checks for me this year, whilst working on some of the deeper links and roots to skin internally.

Moral of the story - don’t put ‘it’ off. If something changes with new/old moles on your skin, please go have it checked. If you feel like you need a second opinion - go get one.

Look after your skin, it’s your largest organ after all 🫶🏼

Green Door Yoga and Modern Ayurvedic - Gen and Madeleine - are launching the Ayur-Yoga Supper Club Series ✨

These seasonal supper clubs will connect like-minded people to meditate together, move together, eat together, and learn together.

A place where people who have attended our previous day retreats can come to hit the refresh button, nurturing the knowledge they already have, and have open discussions with practitioners and in community. But also a place for those who have yet to attend an Ayur-Yoga event, to gently step into these Vedic knowledges without too much foundational education, and to learn through experience rather than formal workshops.

Our first event will be held on Saturday 29th March from 5-8pm at . Limited early bird tickets are now live via www.modernayurvedic.com.au (link in bio). Early bird $108 (until Feb 9th) RRP $138

We can’t wait to bring you all together throughout the year to reconnect with these Vedic sciences through mind, body, spirit (and bellies!).

A 2024 recap of personal and professional highlights. Reflecting a lot these holidays and excited for what’s to come for both MA and myself personally in 2025. Maybe next year I’ll be granted the elusive extra carousel posting privileges and can include all the months of the year 😂✨

Back in the clinic next Wednesday!

The sun rises and falls, nature has a rhythm and we do too! Ayurveda teaches us how to sync to the universal energies - vata, pitta, kapha to better support our mind-body and feel more aligned.

Swipe to learn more about doshic times of day, and how to slowly start syncing key areas of your life with this universal rhythm. We spoke about this A LOT on Sunday at our women’s hormone health Ayur-Yoga day-retreat with .adl

To follow the rhythm/wisdom of the day - dinacharya. Something that once you feel its benefits, you’ll always come back to.

How to spot an modern ayurvedic: they’ll be the ones sipping herbal tea from teacups and saying no to chilled carbonated water 😇

Why?

Our digestive and nervous systems needs warmth. Excess cold drinks and foods can be too jarring and can lead to signs of digestive disturbance such as gas, bloating, constitpation, variable stools, cramps and pain. We can also begin to feel unsettled, too light and flighty.

Some people are naturally more ‘cooler’ beings. These are the vatas (the windy dosha) and kaphas (the earthier dosha) of the world and naturally need more warmth the regulate their digestive capacity.

Some people are naturally warmer beings. These are the pittas (their fiery dosha) of the world. They run hot, digest hot, and can handle the cooler things in life (especially when overheating). However, if not careful, too much cool can cause the same digestive disturbances (it just might take a little longer/more accumulation for this to happen).

I’m a vata-pitta. Which means I am naturally dominant in vata (predominantly) followed by pitta. My digestion can therefore naturally be quite up and down if I am not careful (just like the nature of the sporadic wind). So teacups are forever my friends and carbonated iced drinks are a thing of the past. If I’m feeling anxious you’ll find me boiling some herbal tea to help bring my vata down.

Have you tried drinking warmer water? How does it make you feel?

A little announcement to say that after so much reflection MA will no longer be selling its herbal products online.

It’s the end of an era. Modern Ayurvedic was built with online herbal ayurvedic products at its centre. It’s where the seeds were planted, initially created alongside my dearest soul-sister, Dani, and evolved to the humble clinic that fills my cup every single day.

I thought I could sit behind a computer screen and sell herbs as my dharma.
This honestly came from the intimidation of truly stepping into the light, into the clinic space as a practitioner. Over the past 6 years, my energy has been pulled further and further into the space I once feared I couldn’t fill. Now I relish in my four walls that nurture my soul and others.

Thank you to all the online customers who have trusted MA in herbal products since its inception.
I hope to bring you another consciously curated online product range in the future, as MA continues to evolve.

Please note that clients of the clinic will still be provided with custom herbal prescriptions and the MA triphala, trikatu and ashwagandha capsules. This change only affects the online store.

Big love,

Just a little vata-pitta and her parasol trying to get through these hot summer days.

Anyone else feel easily zapped from intense heat? Ayurveda sees the heat rising in summer as a rise in the pitta dosha. The subsequent dryness can also aggravate vata, leaving us feeling depleted.

Maybe you feel it emotionally - a little more irritable, having a shorter fuse, having that sharper tongue.

Or are you seeing it manifest physically - beyond feeling the heat, are you feeling more inflamed in your eyes, skin, or joints? Are you experiencing hot flushes or heart burn?

If this sounds like you, it might be worthwhile looking at some pitta-pacifying foods and practices. Think cooling foods over spicy, restorative over high-intensity movement, and a milk or buttermilk shirodhara (you can book these via the MA website).

2024 will mark 7 years since I finished my ayurvedic placement in India.

A time in my life when I felt incredibly inspired and in awe, of India and ayurveda, and humbled by the vastness of this knowledge. My knowledge will always be a mere drop in the collective ocean that contains ‘her’ wisdom.

This time in India was the beginning of everything.
It was also the ending of a deep part within me.
I grieved an old me that would be left behind, forever.
She wasn’t coming home.
We cried and we cried and we cried, together.
And I think of her every so often, our moment in the mirror.
But she is as foreign to me now as the land I left her in.
Mother India holds her now.

Oh ayurveda, I owe you my world.

Modern Ayurvedic will be back in action from January 9th - with a few appointments still available for January bookings.

Shirodhara is the perfect treatment for this time of year to help us reset mentally, calming the nervous system, whilst we prepare ourselves for the new year.

This ancient treatment has been used for thousands of years and involves the pouring of medicinal liquid (warm oil, cooling milk or buttermilk) over the third-eye/forehead. You will feel a state of bliss - like a deep meditative state - as you switch-off and truly rest.

A shirodhara treatment includes a massage with warm oil of the scalp, face, hands and feet before the 40min shirodhara/pour begins.

If you’re eager to try (or try again!) this treatment, a few appointments remain available for January. Great for those who are feeling burnt-out, a little anxious or depressed, grieving, needing stress management, experiencing brain-fog, hot flushes, and/or having issues with sleep.

I can’t wait to share this treatment with you. Book online via link in bio.

Tickets for our first day-retreat of 2024 have now been released - put Sunday 11th February in your diaries…you’re officially busy!

Gen from and I are excited for this next event held at our favourite place on the Fleurieu Peninsula .

Given the date is so close to Valentine’s Day we have decided to focus on the theme of (self) love - how to cultivate it through self-awareness, daily routine and rituals via the ayurvedic and yogic lenses.

The term ‘sneha’ has a dual meaning in Sanskrit - oil and love. In ayurvedic medicine it is therefore said that to oil the body is to love the body. Ayurveda uses (a lot!) of oil both internally and externally in treatments. Therefore, throughout this day-retreat we will be exploring ways in which we can utilise oil to keep ourselves feeling grounded and loved. You will even takeaway a lil’ bottle of ayurvedic herbal massage oil/love.

Swipe across for more information. You can purchase tickets for yourself (and a friend/mother/sister/brother/parter!) online.

Hint: this makes for a thoughtful Christmas present…especially if you go together.

Love,
M + G

Can’t believe we’re stepping into the final week at the M.A. clinic for 2023.

Finding myself talking more rest breaks like this between clients on the massage table as the year closes.

It’s been such a big year, with so many wonderful clients - new and old - with unique journeys and inspiring transformations. I’m so proud of you all and feel privileged to have worked together.

Only a couple of spaces for treatments this week - book online if you’re needing some time for yourself here.

And a gentle nudge to those thinking of starting (or restarting) your ayurvedic journey in January 2024. I’ll be back on the 9th of January ✨
