- Triggered -

There is no shortage of triggers and click bait in the world.

Whether it's the news, social media, a family member, partner or the kids, there is a tonne of stuff that can set us off when we are feeling stretched.

This trigger snap response we are so used to seeing and leaning into isn't doing us any good.

It's really f*cking damaging.

Reacting from a triggered place is a recipe for BS.

Not just for yourself but everyone around you.

Ever been so worked up about something it made you filthy for the rest of the day?

Ever snapped at your partner, work colleague or kids?

How'd it all turn out for you?

Made you feel like a bit of a d*ckhead when you cooled down?

Hmmmm funny that...

Now i'm not saying we shouldn't have opinions or stand up for what we believe in.

We should.

What I am saying is maybe take a few moments to breath and chill your Nervous system before you yell at the cashier or share the next piece of culture war clickbait...

Not everything deserves a response.

- Stop -

There doesn't always have to be...

A reason.

A root cause.

A lesson.

Sometimes it just is.

Sometimes the BEST thing to do is stop over-thinking.

Planning.

Analysing.

Sometimes the BEST thing to do is just be IN IT.

Just let it be and soak it all in.

Close your eyes.

Take a deep breath.

FEEL what's there.

Enjoy the f*cking moment.

- Cost -

The conveniences of the modern world have brought us a tonne of great things.

They have also made us sick, lazy, unmotivated, fragile and entitled.

We no longer spend the majority of our days outdoors, hunt or collect our food, and we rarely need to walk to get where we want to go.

Overwhelmingly attributable to todays lifestyle, Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally (according to the WHO).

In 2019 that death toll was 9 million.

NINE F*KN MILLION.

The daily burden of lifestyle diseases (heart disease, diabetes, majority of cancers) on an individual, community and societal level well outweighs anything else we've faced.

Sure our ancestors didn't have cars, or planes or penicillin.

What they did have was a deep connection to their bodies, each other and the environment.

Every convenience has a price.

There is no need for us to go back to sending smoke signals and spending hours of our days searching for food and water (or maybe there is?).

Yet there is a lot we can gain from looking into the lives of our ancestors.

- Spending more time outdoors

- Eating whole locally grown foods

- Drinking more water

- Limiting screen exposure

- Regularly moving our bodies

These are all really simple things that have profound impacts on our overall vitality and wellbeing.

They are also really bloody easy to implement! We have so much to gain by slowing down and reflecting on the wisdom of our ancestors.

By tapping into our savage nature and understanding our primal blueprint.

Next time you automatically reach for what's most convenient, ask yourself how am I paying for this?

What is the cost?

- One Day -

Your children will realise you're not the infallible God they thought you were.

They will realise you're a human being just like them.

A Man of Flesh and Blood.

In that moment what do you want them to say about you?

This question is foundational to ehat we do.

It is a question we return to when we feel lost.

That gets us back on our path.

See in that moment of realisation we want our children to say...

He owned his mistakes.

He took responsibility for his emotions and behaviour.

He healed the wounds he carried.

He made right his wrong-doings.

He brought his dreams to life.

He stood up for what he believed in.

He helped others when they were in need.

He taught us how to care.

He had the courage to face his fears.

He didn't compromise his values.

He was there when we needed him.

He loved us with all he had.

We know we are not perfect and one day our children will know it too.

Even though they will see our flaws, we want them to be proud they were gifted to us.

And if you don't have children I encourage you to think of children you know or you as a child and ask yourself...

What will they say about me?

- More -

Have you ever had the feeling that there must be more?

The little voice in you head that says 'This can't be all there is'.

The Call to Adventure that lives inside each of us.

The call to see, do and be more.

To explore and learn and grow.

To face the dragon of uncertainty and return with the gold of experience.

This call is an opportunity.

To see the world in a way you haven't yet.

An opportunity to meet new mentors, friends and lovers.

There IS more.

Your 9-5 Monday to Friday, chase the dollar, drinks on the weekend, promotion pending, instagram doom scroll, Netflix dinners are NOT all there is.

The world is a playground if you're willing to see it.

Listen to the call.

Adventure Awaits.

- Plan -

As Men we are pretty good at planning for physical danger.

We know accidents and emergencies happen.

That's why we have plans for natural disasters, security breaches and tech failures.

Why first aid training is recommended for everyone.

Why every building has a fire extinguisher and evacuation plan.

Yet when it comes to emotional accidents or emergencies we seem to forget it all...

Just like physical accidents and emergencies, emotional ones are a part of life too.

Having a plan in place for both physical and emotional accidents and emergencies can significantly reduce the likelihood of severe and debilitating consequences.

Much like preparing for physical accidents and emergencies, Training and having a Plan of action in place is critical.

Training in this instance includes preparing your body and mind to deal with stressful situations and emotions.

It could look like:

- Practice breathwork/meditation
- Saunas and Cold plunges/showers
- Working through past traumas/challenges
- Connecting with a therapist or mentor

When it comes to planning this could include things like:

- Having sick leave or annual leave saved at work
- Having a financial buffer
- Having a friend or support network you can call on
- Knowing a safe place you can go to
- Having regulation tools and practices to deal with stress

Planning for an emotional accident or emergency is as essential to planning for a physical one.

There is much in life that we can't control and having a plan in place for when sh*t gets tough can make all the difference.

So why wait until it's too late?

- Monsters -

We all have dark thoughts.

"Yeah sure but mine are different" we can hear you say.

Sure maybe ours aren't exactly like yours.

Perhaps ours are even darker, more twisted, more socially unacceptable?

See the KEY difference between a MAN and a MONSTER is his ability to control his actions.

To have dark thoughts and impulses and choose to NOT act.

It is not your darkness that makes you weak, it is your inability to control it.

As Men we can spend a long time beating ourselves up for our dark thoughts.

Thoughts around violence, s*x, judgements of others, anger.

We begin to question If we are good at all?

If we are different from everyone else, that something is wrong with us, that we are unworthy.

But it is NOT true.

We all have dark thoughts.

A shadow in us that just wants to be acknowledged and seen.

As Men we must form a relationship with our darkness.

Give it love, accept it, see it fully for what it is and find healthy ways of expressing it.

We must not deny our darkness or keep it locked up in the corner of our mind.

We must express it, use it, and most importantly control it.

Adventure Awaits.

- Right Time -

Imagine you're standing on the edge of a river.

You can see the other side.

It's the most incredible place you've ever seen.

The life you've dreamed of living.

You desperately want to get over there.

But the river is ice cold.

It's rough and wide.

Everything in your body is telling you to jump in and swim.

Yet you stand on the edge frozen.

You spend hours and days and years trying to figure out the best way across.

Waiting for the RIGHT TIME.

For things to calm down, become warmer, easier.

They never do.

The life on the other side haunts your dreams.

Until one day you realise...

You have to make a choice.

Jump in or walk away.

If you haven't caught on just yet...

The person is YOU.

The other side is what you WANT.

The river is the CHALLENGE you must face to get it.

While there might be BETTER times to jump in and swim, there is NO PERFECT RIGHT TIME.

So stop waiting.

Make your choice.

Jump the f*ck in and SWIM.

Adventure Awaits.
