Prana, life force, qi or chi ✨💜

What is Shakti, or Prana?

"Shakti, or Prana, is the universal stuff from which it all comes. Everything here is shakti; it’s all just shakti, patterns of shakti.

It’s the stuff of the universe, finer than quanta of energy in the physical, scientific realm. We can ignore it if our method does not involve focusing on energy, or we can work with it, draw it in, mobilize it, direct it, and use it as a force." - Ram Dass

Have you paused and reflected today? 🍃

It’s been a couple of crazy months and I’ve been quite quiet on this page. Teaching, training and life in general have kept me busy. But coming back to my practice has kept me sane.

Don’t forget to take sometime today to stretch, pause and reflect. Appreciate the beauties around you for what they are.

Third eye 👁 and the nadis

Did you know there are approximately 72,000 Nadis in the energy body? The 72,00 Nadis spring from 3 major ones called Ida, Pingala and Sushumna.

Now Ida and Pingala represent the basic duality in existence. They are known as Shiva and Shakti, for the cooling feminine energy and energetic masculine energy of the body. When Shiva meets Shakti at the third eye (Ajna chakra) at Sushumna, the third eye opens and awakening occurs. *

*This is just a simple explanation of the energy channel. One can spend a life time trying to be awakened but can only be when one is ready. The practice of yoga is to assist with this journey. Physical practice alone is merely scratching the surface.

Last night was full moon in cancer. The last full moon of the year which has been the most powerful yet emotional one.
As it’s the last full moon of 2020, it’s a great time for a fire ceremony - to let go of things that no longer serve us, and welcome and manifest new hope, wishes and dreams.

2020 has been an interesting year for most of us. But it has taught us many things. Things happened for a reason. The best thing we can do is to learn to adapt and ride the wave. Just like a surfer. We patiently wait for the right moment, catch the wave and ride it, using it to get us further.

Be the flow. ✨
Be the breath.
Be still.
Feel the magic.
Feel the space you create on the inside.

Why you should practice yoga on your own ✨
Sometimes all you have to do is move your body in an intuitive way in your own space in your own breaths.
The practice of yoga is quite personal to me. I find it intimidating sometimes going to yoga classes and practice with others. I used to go everyday and loved the energy that people shared. But then since my meditation practice has advanced and breath work has been my focus, yoga asana practice to me has become more personal than ever before.
I struggled to follow cues because my breath count is slower. I struggled to fasten my movements as my inhalation is still going let alone to relax into a pose with a short exhalation.

There are benefits of practicing in a studio environment and self practice. I don’t say one is better than the other. Find one that serves you and make it yours.

Yoga is personal. Yoga is your own path. Yoga is what you make it.

Throwback to my birthday this year when COVID restriction was a thing!

- I had the most caring boss from Embody Hot Yoga Marion who surprised me with flowers on my birthday.
- I’ve got the best group of students who all agreed to take a selfie with me (well, as you can see social distancing was applied) 😂
- The students group at Fernwood Fitness wanted to sing me happy birthday but I was too shy so oh well! 😳☺️

Yoga never stops to surprise me everyday with opportunities it shows me on the way, new friendship, and new energy!

What are you grateful for today? 🙏🏽
It’s this time of the year things could get a bit hectic and we’re all too busy to take some time to appreciate little things in life, to pause and reflect, to acknowledge what we have done so far in the year.
Today I invite you all to take one moment to:
- breathe (even just 5 minutes)
- pause and listen, notice things around you today
- stretch or move your body in a new way
- send someone you care about a text to let them know you’re there for them
- dance or sing to your fav song
- sit in the sunshine
- go for a walk
- look at yourself in the mirror and smile
- give yourself a big hug 🤗
Any thing else you would like to see on the self care list?

As we’re adapting to new restrictions and measurements taken this week in SA, my heart goes out to all studio owners and fellow yoga teachers who are facing the challenge. 💕🙏🏽
We are stronger as one. Although we can’t be together in person, we are still together in spirit.
This week has taught me resilience and how to adapt to new changes with a positive attitude. My offerings to you are happening thanks to the wonderful team at Embody Hot Yoga Marion and especially Terrie Rose - to whom I respect the most.

Join me for online classes this week:
✨ Thursday 6.15pm Vinyasa via Zoom
✨ Friday 5pm Yin via Zoom
✨ Saturday 8.30am Vinyasa via Zoom

Keeping it real ✌️
Behind the scene of a video in the making.
We’ve got 2 cats: Sora and Willow and we recently adopted Willow. She is a gorgeous little kitten 8 week old with lots of attitude. She’s sassy and bitey as well 😂
This is my life now when I’m trying to take a footage video of my yoga practice. Willow tried to bite my hair and Sora ran over the tripod.
Oh well I would never have it any other way.

What’s your favourite video of your pet interruption? 🐈

09/11/2020

For those of you that know me, we have adopted a little kitten recently and she has been an absolute joy to have in our little family.
Here’s a video of me doing a rather challenging arm balance and her distracting me in the background doing her “cat business”! Does anyone know why cats are so attracted to yoga mats? 🤨

Meet Willow (aka Chewy or Chewbacca). She’s a fluff ball and a beautiful soul. We’re lucky to have her. 💕

“The self is born but the ego is made; and in the beginning of all is Self. “
Edward Edinger

It’s hard to interpret this quote if we haven’t experienced it.

Of course we all have an ego.

There’s nothing wrong with having an ego. The ego is what gives us and identity, a personality and it is who you are as an INDIVIDUAL.

When we are too attached to the EGO, we identify ourselves with the physical body, and our emotional experience to form an autonomous identity.

The only problem of the ego is NOT that it is limiting but that we let it define who we are.

We stay confined out of fear, guilt, shame and never expand to the other realm, never resonate with things and beings around us.

It is not wrong to have an ego, but it should be an anchor for us to grow, to experience, not a limitation to stop us from being who we really ARE.

This week, I’ve completed my Yin YTT. The 50 hours spent together with these beautiful souls has been a wild ride.

There certainly has been heaps of ups and downs, in both our energy and emotions over the past few days. But we’ve shared it in silence, with a kind smile, an understanding nod, and teary eyes.

We definitely have been restricted because of COVID. However, this thing we shared called QI - flowing in all our us, in the air, in our spirits.
Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to be my real self again, to be able to open up, to share and to be authentic. ✨☺️

Every experience has its transformational power. This one is too. One that brings me new friendship. One that brings me back to my root. One that helps me heal. 🙏🏽

Can’t wait to share this wisdom and medicinal practice with everyone 💕☺️✨
