📱 QR code check-in requirements and the use of COVID SAfe Check-In has been removed from retail stores (including supermarkets), but you must still check in at locations that are defined public activities.

This is because of reduced evidence of transmission in retail environments, when compared with hospitality and fitness settings.

Data from COVID SAfe Check-In continues to be used to communicate directly with close contacts when required.

COVID SAfe Check-In has contributed significantly to the easing of restrictions so that we can keep doing the things we love.

Defined public activities include:
▪️ onsite purchase and consumption of food or beverages (whether occurring in an indoor or outdoor area)
▪️ sport (including sports training), fitness or recreation activities
▪️ indoor public meetings
▪️ ceremonies
▪️ public assemblies
▪️ personal care services
▪️ public entertainment
▪️ recreational transport
▪️ nightclubs
▪️ licensed premises
▪️ casino or gaming area (within the meaning of the Gaming Machines Act 1992)
▪️ auctions and inspections of premises for the purpose of sale or rental of any property
▪️ driver instruction
▪️ health care, residential care, disability support or aged care services.

Masks are an important measure to protect yourself and others. If a person wearing a mask is unknowingly infected with COVID-19, wearing a mask will reduce the chance of them passing the virus on to others.

😷 Please wear a mask whenever you can.

From tomorrow, masks will be mandatory under the Activities Direction for:
• Shared indoor public spaces
• Passenger transport services
• Health care services
• High risk settings
• Personal care services.

Masks will be required in schools for students in Year 8 and upwards, as well as teachers and other adult visitors.

Masks are strongly recommended to be worn in indoor workplaces, especially open plan offices, and in adult learning settings like university and TAFE.

You should also wear a mask when socialising with friends, family and colleagues – anyone from outside your household.

There are exceptions to these mandatory requirements, including:
• Where a person may have a physical or mental health illness or condition, or disability, which makes wearing a face covering unsuitable, including persons with obstructed breathing, a serious skin condition of the face, an intellectual disability, a mental health condition or persons who have experienced trauma.
• For a person communicating with those who are deaf or hard of hearing and visibility of the mouth is essential for communication.
• For a person who wears hearing aids of a style that makes wearing masks difficult and where an alternative style of mask (with ties rather than ear loops) is not available.
• For people whose work or education means that wearing a face mask creates a risk to health and safety.
• Where the nature of the work or education means that clear enunciation (ie speech) or visibility of their mouth is essential. This includes teachers, lecturers, broadcasters or call centre staff.
• Where a person is working by themselves in an enclosed indoor space such as an office unless and until another person enters that space.
• When a person is consuming food, drink or medicine.
• In circumstances where removal of the mask is lawfully required for identification purposes.
• If the person is a child under 12 years of age.
• A mask can be removed by a customer or client if required for the service (e.g. lip waxing), provided it is only removed for the time taken to receive the service.
• Members of a bridal party do not need to wear masks during the ceremony (including photos).

"I was 35 when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. The primary tumour was in my sigmoid colon and had spread to over 50 percent of my liver.

I was only diagnosed by accident by my GP after I had been having abdominal issues after an operation to remove a cyst on my wrist.

I thought I just had an upset stomach due to the pain killers I had been taking. My doctor realised I had an inflamed liver and sent me for a CT scan. That is when they discovered the primary tumour and the tumours on my liver. I was alone in the doctor’s office when he told me. I can’t remember the rest of that day.

I had to wait over 6 weeks to get a colonoscopy as it was the Christmas and new year period. The wait was like living in hell.

In hindsight I should have been more aware of some symptoms that I had been experiencing. I had noticed blood in my stools but put that down to haemorrhoids as I had to have some surgically removed after my second child. I was very fatigued but put that down to being a working mother of two young children. I was not aware of bowel cancer symptoms so that thought had never crossed my mind.

After finally having a colonoscopy it was decided that I wasn’t able to have surgery so I was scheduled to start chemotherapy shortly after. My chemo port was inserted in the day of my 36th birthday.

The day before I was due to start chemo my bowel perforated. I was rushed into emergency surgery which is when I ended up with my ostomy bag. They removed the primary tumour too so I kind of felt that was a blessing in disguise. I felt better knowing part of ‘the monster’ had been removed from my body.

Since then I have had more than 50 rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Two and a half years later we just take one day at a time and be thankful that treatment is still working. I am thankful that treatment is tolerable, and I can live a relatively normal life. I will never take good health for granted.

My journey is far from over and I remain hopeful that there are still options available for me to beat this dreaded disease. I wish to raise awareness in the hope that others don’t have to face the same ordeal." ~ Rhiana
