At 13 years of age I watched a family friend use acupuncture and Chinese Tuina massage to treat my father, who had sustained a cervical spine injury falling asleep whilst watching TV in bed! This drew my curiosity and soon I began to ask questions and copy what I had seen on anyone who needed a massage. It was two fold
Firstly, Steve Jobs passed away in late 2011 and his famous 2005 Stanford Commencement speech was the first part. It was about not settling for anything, truly finding your passion & going out and doing it. I recalled my earlier experience as a teen so I enrolled into a Health Science degree hoping to get into Physiotherapy. Secondly, after completing a university degree in Accounting I realised I had no interest in working in that field. I took a post-uni gap year and it was a chance encounter with a painter that set the course for the events. He said something about doing massage in the centre we where painting and that was it. I also enrolled into a massage course. Where has your career taken you? I have had an interesting career where I worked at AFL and SANFL level, working with elite footballers to aid in their recovery and injury prevention. I have also worked with martial artists, cricketers, professional surfers, active individuals and every day people. During this time I spent three years living in Nanjing, China whilst studying language and different healing & health modalities. Tell us about your spirituality? I started my spiritual journey after high school with Buddhism. His teachings, quotes and wisdom had a profound impact on me from the get go and I saw it as a way we ought to live our daily lives with a structure. Eight years later I began my spiritual path. I knew there was more to life than a career, marriage, house, materialism & retirement. I had a knowing there was something greater than me that existed and I was
enthusiastic to find out. I didn’t know this at the time but I was discovering myself. The path is winding and takes you all sorts of places and you meet lots of people. Love it some days and hate it others. Then the pandemic happened which shut the world down, led to a standstill and forced everyone to look within. In this time I discovered yoga & reformer pilates. This practice cultivated a practice of involution, creation of space and feeling deep within. Without knowing this lead to my spiritual awakening after a further eight years. A back injury led me to study Reiki on a whim. Meeting my teacher John was the change I never saw coming. Becoming a healer means being initiated with an attunement and healing of your pain, trauma and past. This has happy moments and moments that make you question what did you get yourself into. The process is ongoing but you become lighter and create more space within you. Within this space you see your trauma. Where you hold yourself back. Give your power away. As you heal you do less and less of that space and live more and more in the present. In alignment with the universe and in love
