Breastfeeding and considering COVID 19 vaccination

As per the Australian Government Recommendation for the Covid-19 vaccination for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women, if you are breastfeeding you can receive Comirnaty (COVID 19 vaccine, Pfizer Australia) at any time. You do not need to stop breastfeeding before or after vaccination.

There is no evidence that breastfeeding women have any increased risk of complications from COVID-19 compared to women who are not breastfeeding.

Antenatal Expression of Colostrum

Collected and frozen expressed (hand expressed) colostrum is used to feed a baby after birth, if required. Mums might express colostrum antenatally for various reasons-diabetes in pregnancy, breast hypoplasia, past breast surgery. Some babies may require more fluids/nutrition in the early postnatal period. If extra breastmilk is not available, these babies may have to be given formula in the early postnatal period. If you’re considering antenatal expression, it’s important to discuss it with your Health Professional. Any questions/ concerns, call 0434008093.

Dads can be involved too!

Although young babies want to breastfeed much of the time they are awake and be close to you, there are other ways partners can be involved and spend time with them. How does your partner enjoy time with your baby?

Today is Human Rights Day.
Every baby has the right to breastfeed or receive breastmilk and it is the right of every mother to have access to up-to-date information so that she can make informed decisions.

The law in Australia protects you from being discriminated against because you are a breastfeeding mother. This includes if you are expressing milk by hand or with a breast pump to give to your baby later.

… babies can be breastfed anywhere and anytime.

It is not always clear why blocked ducts occur; however, insufficient breast drainage is most likely the cause.

Happy Fathers Day!

With Father’s Day coming up, we acknowledge all the work dads do to support breastfeeding. Even though dad’s can’t physically breastfeed, we think it’s so important to recognise their part in this magical journey.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the fabulous women out there!

Being home with a baby, IWD may not feel all that relevant this year as you tend to his/her needs within the four walls of your house but it’s more relevant than ever.
With each day, each nappy changed, each bottle or breast feed given, each comfort cuddle, each act of love, cultivates a better world for everyone to live in. The love you show in these early days goes a long way to raising compassionate and caring human beings. These next generation of men and women who are raised with love and respect will make the biggest difference.
