My name is Jarrod, I'm a Cert IV qualified Personal Trainer/Master Trainer. I'd like to share a bit of my story with you. My initial interest in Health and Fitness came in the form of Bodybuilding. I still have a great passion for Bodybuilding and I have finally realised that it is something that I can do and I’m on my own journey to compete in the USA in 2018
I remember I was about
11 years old when I first saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando I was instantly curious as to how a man developed a physique like this. I then saw Arnold and Lou Ferrigno in Pumping Iron and I knew that someday I wanted to do what they did. I was about 15 years old when I first tried weight training/lifting and absolutely loved it. Over the next 20 years I dabbled further into my own training, however I never had the understanding of how important nutrition was in the equation. At about 24 or 25 years of age I had thought about becoming a PT but dismissed it just as quickly as like many of my generation we were taught the importance of a 9-5 J.O.B. Eventually in 2010 when my situation at work changed and I decided I needed to get my Personal Trainer Qualification so I enrolled and completed both my Cert III and IV in fitness and was the Course Champion. Whilst I didn’t work in a mainstream Gym for a long period of time I ended up utilising the knowledge and skills that I had learnt in the course to influence my own training as well as run activities with the Young People that I was working with (I was a Youth Worker up until 2016). As My Journey in health and fitness continued I began to realise that something that is so often forgotten in the industry is Wellness. I personally define Wellness as the emotional connection one has with their health. It is where you learn to appreciate and love your ‘faults’ and realise that these are what make you a perfect human and that these ’faults’ also make you unique and interesting. It’s being comfortable in your own skin and not allowing negative thoughts to control your actions. I must also say that Health and fitness is not something that anyone is born with, you don't have to be aiming to be a bodybuilder or fitness model, it's about creating a positive healthy lifestyle that provides you with an energy and zest for life and feeling the way we are designed to feel. Living a healthy lifestyle is something you have to work on and be proactive about, but it shouldn't be stressful, it should be fun. It's about checking the ego at the door and realising that your most valuable asset is your health, it is worth more than any fancy car or extravagant house. I personally feel that somewhere along the way the human race has lost sight of maintaining good health as we see that it is easier to fix health problems after they occur rather than developing a preventative lifestyle that will have so many far reaching benefits. My more recent journey with my health and getting myself back into shape I was introduced to a program that has had a huge impact on my nutrition and the respect I have for food and proper nutrition. The amazing thing is that I no longer have to feel bored with the same meal of chicken or fish with broccoli, sweet potato and brown rice every day. I'm eating clean whole foods with tonnes of flavour and I'm continuing to get leaner every day
My belief is when you develop a respect for exercise, nutrition and wellbeing and incorporate these into your life you will be amazed at the impact this will have for you. My career so far has taken me on a varied and interesting journey and it has eventually led me to where I am today. Throughout my life my main driver has been wanting to help others and this has culminated with the creation of The Healthy Human Movement. I have 3 reasons that I've created The Healthy Human Movement
1.) to provide a holistic approach towards Health incorporating Physical, Nutritional and Emotional factors that are tailored to the individual.
2.) is to help others achieve the health and fitness that they have always dreamed of and support them on their journey so that they are successful.
3.) is to do something I love so that I don't feel like I'm just passing my time until I retire doing something I don't have the love, passion and fire for.
