This International Women’s Day, we reflect on the women who shape St Andrew’s Hospital every day.
In 1936, Sister Janet Hay founded St Andrew’s Hospital. She was a nurse, a war veteran, and a woman driven to create a new standard of care.
Her courage reminds us why access to education, opportunity and leadership matters. Because when women are empowered, they shape institutions, communities and futures.
Today, that legacy continues through the many women who make up our hospital community. This video highlights just a few of them across different parts of St Andrew’s, from nurses and clinicians to ancillary staff, volunteers and beyond.
On International Women’s Day, we also recognise the women across our wider hospital community. Our patients, families, suppliers and partners who contribute to the care, connection and collaboration that make St Andrew’s what it is.
In healthcare, balancing the scales means removing barriers to care, expanding access to opportunity, and creating workplaces where women are supported to lead.
We thank the women of St Andrew’s today. We thank those who paved the way before them. And we thank those who will follow in their footsteps. Your dedication, leadership and care continue to shape the future of our hospital community.
