estara We’re South Australia’s peak body for spinal cord injury and a registered NDIS provider and charity.

Since 1963, we’ve been supporting people living with spinal cord injury and other disability to live independently, safely and with choice. PQSA is the foremost community spinal cord injury body in South Australia, providing invaluable services to people with SCI and other disabilities. Established in 1963, the organization began as a volunteer-run advocacy group for those who required wheelchairs for mobility. As demand grew, PQSA expanded its reach across six locations in South Australia, including major regional centres, and was rebranded as PQSA in 2014. Today, the organization boasts a team of passionate and dedicated staff and volunteers who work together to enable everyone to participate fully in the community. PQSA has established itself as a subject matter expert in the SCI community, with strong ties to SA Health, allowing the organization to optimize health outcomes and treatment pathways. As a benevolent organization and registered NDIS provider, PQSA provides top-tier peer support, specialist spinal nursing, and occupational therapy services that have become best-practice models across health, rehabilitation, and community disability networks. PQSA is well-known for its commitment to removing barriers to participation and supporting the broader disability community through funding accessibility and inclusion initiatives. HomeCare+, PQSA's in-home care service, is a leading provider of services to people living with disabilities, across a range of physical, intellectual, and developmental conditions. The organization is committed to providing quality services and safeguarding its clients. At PQSA, the principles of person-centred care and individualised support are at the forefront of everything the organization does. Emphasizing a team approach with the client as the key team member, PQSA offers genuine, supported, and exciting job and career growth opportunities. For those seeking to empower those with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities to live their potential, PQSA is the ideal place to start.

Following our recent post about our new weight scale, we welcomed our first community member, Roz, last week to try out the new system. Roz had been waiting a long time to be able to weigh herself and was grateful to be able to use this new community service.

Her exercise physiologist (who initiated the booking) said, "Thank you for your assistance with organising this. It has been very smooth, and it is fantastic to have this resource available for the community."

Our team was so happy to be able to assist - it was lovely to meet you Roz!

This weight scale is being offered to both estara clients and the broader disability community to use for free via a . If you would like to book, please get in touch!

We're really happy to be supporting the South Australian Council of Social Service and Volunteering SA&NT with their Give Credit campaign.

This campaign seeks to celebrate the exceptional people and who work in the community service sector here in South Australia - a sector we feel very privileged to be a part of of.

We’re excited to reveal the names of the first organisations, staff and volunteers who have signed up to our campaign to celebrate SA’s community service sector: https://givecreditsa.com.au/
From supporting people living with disability and older South Australians, to tackling mental health challenges, the harmful impacts of alcohol and other drugs, and homelessness — our work matters.
Give Credit raises the profile of the amazing work these people and organisations do with a rolling list on a website which will be displayed further as the campaign unfolds.
To find out more and get involved, please visit https://sacoss.org.au/sa-give-credit/

Give Credit is being delivered in partnership between SACOSS and Volunteering SA&NT.

It was really lovely to be able to host Claire Clutterham MP at our Dulwich Office last week. Claire visited to have a chat and see a demo of a new piece of equipment, a weight scale for our demonstration Handimove gantry, that we have been able to purchase with the help of a Stronger Communities Grant.

This equipment provides accessible weighing options for our community which can be quite hard to find. The scale is combined with the gantry system, that can be used to support greater independence at home and reduced reliance on supports.

As part of our conversation we were also able to talk to Claire about some of barriers our client's are facing in terms of accessing funding and support to return to work, travel and to purchase vital equipment. We really appreciated Claire's interest in our work and her openness to chat about some of the key challenges our client's are dealing with.

Clients can book in to use our new weighing system during business hours.
