There are many reasons we might be drawn to begin a yoga practice and find a yoga school. The most common reason I’ve observed when people begin yoga, is they’re looking for relief from lower back discomfort and stress. In our society there seems to be an epidemic of stress, an imbalance in our personal daily living ratio, digestive disorders, and low back dysfunction to name just a few.
At Om yoga our highly trained senior teachers will return over and over to tadasana as they teach. It forms the foundation of all the many asanas. It’s not the most exciting or the most exotic of postures but it allows us to really feel our feet and our legs in contact with the earth and their relationship and effect on the whole body ascending towards the sky to feel centred, present and harmoniously aligned. We can investigate that we’re not hard and rigid but rather aligned and balanced, both physically and energetically.
Our 5 session Yoga for Back Care course will commence in June. Wednesday nights 5.30-7pm. We have a 2 for 1 special offer. Numbers are limited. Please register your interest.

I’m thinking about avoidance and how being busy can be a way of making an excuse for not making time for that which we know nourishes us.
We may have created a full schedule of activities and worthwhile commitments but do we make time to engage our heart, to nourish our soul?
A yogic life suggests regular practices, get up early and greet the sunrise, eat wholesome homegrown food where possible, develop healthy sleep patterns, maintain and nourish friendships, embrace periods of silence.
We thrive when we remember to value these things, and not waste time being busy.
Reignite your yoga practice by attending our many classes and meeting our wonderful dedicated certified teachers and a yoga community and new friends.

Much of my morning's contemplation as I learnt the news of his death, was on the words and teachings of Thich Nhat Hahn, in particular his work as a peace activist and a poet. I have so many times shared his gatha with pregnant women in my classes: Breathing in, I smile Breathing out, I release Breathing in, I dwell in the present moment. Breathing out, I feel it is a wonderful moment. Hari Om Shanti, shanti, shanti

Come and join with Lilly tomorrow Monday Jan. 24th at 5.30pm to stretch, release and love your body

In these times of fear and uncertainty for us all we would like to share our new class that we hope will be a safe and joy filled space for new mothers and babies.

New mothers and babies class commencing February 7th at 10am with Kate. These women’s centred classes have a focus on gentle pelvic floor work as well as regaining stability and strength in the postpartum phase. There is a deep focus on opening and strengthening the muscles often affected by holding, feeding, carrying and caring for your baby. As well as restorative poses to nourish the new mother and an opportunity to reflect on this fleeting and monumental time in your life. This is a wonderful time to connect with your baby and other women sharing your current season.

Please share with the new mothers in your life more information is available on the om yoga website www.omyoga.com.au

Dear Om Yogis
We’re still CLOSED until Covid restrictions are relaxed.
Indoor activities such as yoga require 8sq Metre spacing between participants and we can’t do that !
Backbends whether lying on the tummy ones i.e. bhujangasana or pushing up into a wheel with strong arms and legs, or lying in a passive backbend through a chair or a bolster will lift your spirits, charge your immune system and just make you feel good.
Enjoy the winter sunshine and practice safely at home. 🕉

There are many reasons to practice yoga and one of them is to stay strong and independent for as long as possible, which for me and many of us, doesn’t mean just basic self care.
A yogasana practice provides 4 essential skills - physical strength to maintain upper body strength, lower body strength, core strength and bone strength.
Flexibility to maintain a wide range of movements in your joints, to move skilfully and gracefully and to feel more confident in your body.
Balance to be centred and grounded, which is crucial for preventing falls,a serious concern for older people.
Agility of body and mind to participate in activities that require skill, coordination and speed.
See you on the mat soon 🕉
