Don't be blind-sided.....Did you know that it is estimated that over 300,000 Australians have glaucoma, yet 50% are unaware they have it, thinking they have healthy eyes. Do you know what Glaucoma is? Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases where vision is lost due to damage to the optic nerve.

Anyone may develop glaucoma, but the incidence increases with age. About 1 in 10,000 babies are born with glaucoma, by age 40 about 1 in 200 have glaucoma, rising to 1 in 8 at age 80.

Glaucoma Australia recommends all Australians 50 years or older visit an optometrist every 2 years for a comprehensive eye exam, and if you have a family history of glaucoma or are of Asian or African descent we recommend you get your eyes checked every 2 years from the age of 40, and this includes a measure of the pressures of the eye and viewing the retina at the back of the eye.
The following link is a quick on-line quiz to help you assess your risk. https://quiz.glaucoma.org.au

This Saturday 8th march is International Women’s Day, which is a worldwide celebration of women’s achievements. It is also a call for greater action on gender equality.

This year’s theme -
‘March Forward’ it’s time to turn promises into progress
is a message to the wider community of the advocacy and action focus of International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to unite, network and mobilise for meaningful change. No country in the world has achieved gender equality – yet!

Through International Women’s Day, the aim is to put the spotlight on global issues that perpetuate gender inequality and highlight actions we can all take on the path to a gender equal world.

So, let's celebrate the women in our life's - the wives, sisters, daughters, nieces, aunts, carers and celebrate a future for all gender equality.

Feb 24th is Wellness and Emotional Health Day
Take a moment to notice how you are today.
Take some time to be mindful in the moment and celebrate the positive things in your life.
What might “looking after myself well today” look like?
What sorts of things have a settling effect on you?
Make a list of your top 3 (e.g. going for a walk outside, having a long bath, chatting with a friend)
Think about any difficult feelings or unresolved issues that you carry around with you. Is it time to express them or let them go? Who can help you with this?
What might you do to nurture the important relationships in your life today, whether with family, friends or colleagues?
Make a plan to catch up with a good friend you might not have seen for a while
Plan a fun activity with family or friends, or something you find nurturing for yourself
Listen well to those around you today

About Us

History of the Medical Centres

The history of our medical centres dates back to the 1980s when Dr Joseph Przybylko started consulting from the local shopping centre, then called Beefacres. Beefacres dates back to the 1950s and originally there was a deli, butcher, fruit and veg, hairdresser, chemist and a doctor. It was the local community centre that serviced the growing population of farmers and migrants. A lot has happened to the Windsor Village Medical Centre since then, but we are still in the same location and servicing our local community, with the aim to build a happy and healthy community.

Dr Przybylko established Oakden Medical Centre in the mid 1990s, after he purchased a local practice from a retiring GP. Originally the building was an office for the legume and grain packaging company "Anchor". Behind the office building (where the current retirement village is) was the factory, with sheds, silos and conveyor belts, not to mention the forklifts running up and down Fosters Road! Oakden has grown from a dilapidated single storey building to the state of the art medical centre it is today. Our final renovations were completed in 2013, with the majority of work being carried out by local trades who were patients of ours.
