On the 25th of November, it is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. There are 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a campaign which promotes efforts worldwide to prevent violence against women and girls.
Please reach out if you are affected by domestic or family violence. There are supports in the community and the Medical Centres could help in connecting you to some of these.

This week is Dementia Awareness Week.
Dementia doesn’t just impact the person living with the condition and their immediate carers; it also impacts their friends, family and wider social network.

With an estimated 433,300 Australians living with dementia and 1.7 million people involved in their care, chances are you know someone who is impacted by dementia.

Please reach out to people you know who are affected by this disease and their supports to lend a hand.

In the early stages, much of the symptoms can be easily explained. If you are concerned, please contact a health professional for support or information.

Don't be blind-sided.....Did you know that it is estimated that over 300,000 Australians have glaucoma, yet 50% are unaware they have it, thinking they have healthy eyes. Do you know what Glaucoma is? Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases where vision is lost due to damage to the optic nerve.

Anyone may develop glaucoma, but the incidence increases with age. About 1 in 10,000 babies are born with glaucoma, by age 40 about 1 in 200 have glaucoma, rising to 1 in 8 at age 80.

Glaucoma Australia recommends all Australians 50 years or older visit an optometrist every 2 years for a comprehensive eye exam, and if you have a family history of glaucoma or are of Asian or African descent we recommend you get your eyes checked every 2 years from the age of 40, and this includes a measure of the pressures of the eye and viewing the retina at the back of the eye.

Today, on Aged Care Employee Day, we need to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the wonderful contributions of those working in aged care. This day is an opportunity to honour the dedication, support and expertise of our aged care workforce, who provide vital support to older Australians every single day. The older people in pour community are valued members of society and deserve the very best care.

Spare a thought today for the people working in Aged Care to assist the elderly and celebrate their contributions.

- loss of memory
- difficulty planning or problem solving
- difficulty finding the right word to use

Every year for anyone over 75+ years, our nurses try to do a free baseline assessment to see if there could be memory, mental health or general safety issues.

If you have a personal or family history of diabetes, WHEN WAS YOUR LAST BLOOD TEST OR REVIEW?!

With today's technology it can be easy to prevent, identify and manage!

You are at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes if you have the following:
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- smoker
- overweight
- high sugar intake
- family history
- aging
- male
- Aboriginal, Torres Straight Islander

Ask your doctor or nurse for screening or more information!

June is Bowel Cancer awareness month. If you are 50+ years, you are eligible for free bowel screening every 2 years. 💩

Are you up to date?

If the government has not sent you your free bowel kit yet, or it has expired, you can ask your GP for one.
