The Lazy Nutritionist Wholesome Healthy Food, for the People that Can't Be Bothered

Instagram: thelazy_nutritionist Welcome! I am Leisha, the Lazy Nutritionist!

I am a clinical nutritionist that understands that making changes, no matter how small or large, is hard work and my treatment plans are individualised to cater for those people who know they need to make changes but struggle to find the motivation or lack the tools and strategies to make those necessary changes happen. Like any health professional, I have special interest areas and these are:
- G

ut
- Digestion
- Thyroid
- Drug/Nutrient Interactions
And a particular interest in:
- Skin! Skin conditions, particularly eczema, psoriasis and acne, are my forte. I can speak from lots of personal experience when it comes to treating eczema (particularly steroid-induced eczema and topical steroid withdrawal) as I have had these myself. For booking appointments call or text:

✨ 3 MEALS OVER 3 DAYS ✨

A lot of these things are a throw together; I like to keep things easy.

My super simple salmon, avocado, cream cheese, touch of olive oil and lemon juice, salt and pepper. Super filling, full of healthy fats, keto/low carb friendly. Fabulous for the blood sugar 🩸

One of my staples at the moment is actually sausages. Now, a good sausage is really no different than having any other ground up meat. Just be sure to check for fillers, odd flavourings and seed oils - I’ve noticed chicken sausages are often way more full of bulking agents and seed oils. These beef sausages are just a mid tier supermarket brand, no seed oils or weird fillings, which I’ve been super impressed by.

Lots of what I have in the fridge are pickled items as well. Pickled onions are a favourite, but I’ve also had pickled carrots and sauerkraut in these. Always topped with olive oil, salt and pepper for my liking.

Having stuff ready in the fridge to throw together is a lifesaver for my appetite. I’m such a protein girl and if I don’t have a high protein first meal, I’m staaaaaaarving for the rest of the day!

Did any of these give you inspiration? Let me know below 👇

Eating a .nutrition beef bar with some cheese and homemade guacamole to tide me over until dinner 😋

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks, with the baby having hand foot and mouth disease from childcare, and recovering sleep and rest from then!

Love being able to have these beef bars handy when I really need them 👌

✨ HEALTH JOURNEY ✨

I don’t believe health journeys are ever over. We grow and change as humans, both physically and mentally, so we need different things at different stages of life.

My health journey started at 16 months old when my skin started flaring and the first (and only) treatment that was provided to me for the better part of two decades was topical steroid creams. Full blow topical steroid addiction started almost straight away, but we didn’t know that. It wasn’t until I was 23 that we worked out that the creams were the problem.

I developed an egg allergy at 6 and coeliac disease at 17. I have various theories around why these sensitivity’s were triggered, but the main point is that holistic, complex, whole-person treatment was never offered to me. We weren’t a rich family, either, so could only afford healthcare through subsides means.

I want to start changing that.

Beginning a health journey is H A R D.

Where do you start?

Who do you listen to?

How do I sift out the gravel from the gold?

1️⃣ understanding how the human body works
2️⃣ recognising how YOUR body works
3️⃣ confidence to say NO to something that doesn’t sit right

This is how I’ll be empowering you to start that health journey you’ve always wanted to. I get it. I’ve been there (and sometimes still am!).

✨ REASONS TO SEE/TO NOT SEE ME ✨

I’ve had a lot of people make judgements on my health and ability to be a Certified Practicing Nutritionist (CPN) based on my size.

The thing is though, is that I’ve never had an issue with my weight. It’s just never been a problem for me 🤷‍♀️

But I have had horrendous skin and been through Topical Steroid Withdrawal, chronic sensitivities, terrible gut function and lack of energy. Those things all have waaaaaaay more bearing on my overall health than my weight.

The other issue with simply going with size is that humans do come in lots of shapes and sizes. Plenty of people are super healthy and have stockier bodies than I do. Broader frames, varying bone size, varying muscle size and structure all determine a human’s natural size.

I firmly believe it’s not only important to choose a practitioner that is degree qualified (like myself 😉) but I think it’s also important that that person is experienced on some personal level of managing the conditions you’re seeking help for, whether than be through someone close to them or themselves. That way they can truly empathise with what you’re going through and how to make changes 🎉

When it comes to hard changes I get it. I’ve been put through all sorts of changes to try and find health and have hit a myriad of problems and successes along the way. I’ve helped facilitate clients finding medical diagnoses (I cannot diagnose) through the right pathways and practitioners; and finding ways of improving compliance to therapies is an absolute specialty of mine. 👏

So, don’t see me because I’m thin. See me because I’m everything else ✨

Clinic is open for strictly limited places and waiting times likely apply. DM for more info ✨

🥩 LAB GROWN MEAT 🥩
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I couldn’t do a special month on protein without addressing lab meat. Personally, I do not support it, and these are my three main reasons why:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍗 Food Security: a massive issue not just for the developing world but for the developed as well. In the US, 60% of the chicken industry is controlled by just 4 companies. For farmers, this means that the company can dictate production and prices without ever owning the farm, and for consumers, this means these companies dictate the price you pay. Less diversity in suppliers means less competition and more control over the public for these companies - food control has been used by various dictators throughout history. Let's not let it happen anymore. ✋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌳 Environment: that to the anti-meat rhetoric, most people assume that meat production is a huge problem for the environment, but, here's the thing - we need these animals to make the environment better. It's not the meat itself that's the issue, it's the process used to produce it. When farmed in an environmentally conscious manner, animal farming becomes carbon neutral or even carbon negative, capturing more carbon from the air into the soil than they secrete. Caw farts aren't the problem when their gases are part of the natural cycle (note: there are no more cows in the US than there were native bison on the land beforehand = same amount of farts). Lab meat also produces more GHGs and does not have the ability to capture carbon in a natural cycle way, like animals do. 🐄 🐑 🐐 🐓 🐖
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💪 Nutrition: there is far more to our food than simply growing it from cells. Animals are raised and are exposed to elements that promote life and health, all impacting the quality of the meat. Lab cells don't go through this process.

Todays lunch for sick little me ✨ prioritising protein ✨

Now, my immune system has never been the best. I was a pretty fussy eater as a kid (although, I have a few ideas on why and how things might’ve been different), I was lathered in steroid creams for two decades, had my fair share of antibiotics and likely had several, miss-timed medical interventions.

Couple that with my heightened genetics towards allergies and autoimmune and it’s a recipe for illness.

THEN layer on pregnancy, breastfeeding more than a years worth of low to no exposure to illness and it’s no wonder I’m coming down with everything under the sun.

I’m also still working on my own diet and kicking my last ditch habits, but, aren’t we all?

Just remember that when you’re struggling to make changes.

It’s really, really hard.

But it’s also really, really worth doing.

And we are all a work in progress. That progress never stops.

Anyone saying otherwise is not being honest.

It’s why it’s super important to find someone that’ll work WITH you and also be HONEST about themselves and the journey.

If you’re someone that’s right at the beginning, the one dreaming about being well, the one that needs those first few things going, that first real push, then I’ve got the thing for you.

My upcoming online course is all about that. Self-paced, informative and actionable, you get the first interventions I go to with clients in one.

You’ve gotta start somewhere.

I read this phrase in a book recently (“Everything is Figureoutable”) and it’s stuck with me.

And it’s keeping me going.

In all of my goals.

In clinic - improving my knowledge in my weaker areas.

In horse riding - looking at building my relationship in the ground first before the saddle; and

In parenting - because everything is new and everything is a learning curve!

The thing is, we aren’t born natural good at stuff.

That goes for our health, too.

We aren’t just born with the knowledge and skills to be able to make healthy, individual choices from the beginning.

Not when we live surrounded by the food we are currently surrounded by.

This is a learned skill.

And this is where an effective teacher is needed.

I’m putting together a variety of online courses to help combat this knowledge gap, starting with the basics.

Mixed with actionable tips and extra activities, my first online course will provide you with that foundational knowledge we all need.

It’s not a “12 week challenge” or a “workout and fitness plan” - it’s designed for those that need knowledge and a based to get started on.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, hit follow and send them this post.

In the meantime, what do you currently suck at that you’re working towards being good at? Let me know in the comments 👇

Meeeeat baaaaaaased 💪 sharing because I know how hard it is to get the right stuff that you can just chuck in your bag straight from the pantry and goooooo 🏃‍♀️
