Looking for a simple yet powerful way to build strength and core stability in your horse? Hill work is one of the most effective exercises to engage the hindquarters, core, and back muscles all while improving balance and flexibility.

šŸ’Ŗ Walking up a gradual incline encourages your horse to lift through the hind end and activate their abdominal muscles, supporting a stronger pelvis and better overall posture.

āœ… Strengthens the core and hindquarters
āœ… Encourages smooth, controlled movement
āœ… Improves flexibility and back engagement

✨ Pro tip: Keep the walk straight and steady. On the way down, encourage control and stretch to build balance and stability.

Simple. Effective. Transformative.

Combining PEMF and massage, it helps relieve tension, promote recovery, and maintain muscle suppleness, all from the comfort of your own stable.

Whether you’re managing a specific issue or just want to keep your horse feeling great day-to-day, the Activo-Med is your go-to tool for consistent care. šŸ™Œ

šŸ”“ What Is Fibrotic Myopathy?
Fibrotic myopathy is a performance-limiting condition characterised by the replacement of normal muscle fibers with fibrous scar tissue. This replacement typically occurs in the hamstring muscles of the hind limbs, particularly the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles. The resulting fibrotic tissue leads to mechanical restriction, hindering forward motion and creating a distinctive ā€œgoose steppingā€ gait abnormality. Though it’s not always painful, it significantly affects muscle function and can disrupt a horse’s normal gait.

šŸ”“ How Muscle Tissue Is Affected
In fibrotic myopathy, injury to muscle tissue, often from trauma or repeated intramuscular injections, triggers a healing response where scar tissue forms in place of damaged muscle fibers. This scar tissue lacks the elasticity and contractile properties of normal muscle, causing fibrous tissue to bind parts of the muscle that should move freely.

This is especially problematic in the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles, where even mild cases can lead to lasting mechanical lameness and gait abnormalities. Deep palpation often reveals hardened areas along affected muscles.

Managing Cushing’s Disease (PPID) in horses can be challenging, but MagnaWave PEMF therapy offers a powerful, non-invasive way to support your horse’s comfort and wellbeing.

Cushing’s often brings on fatigue, muscle loss, laminitis, and chronic pain. MagnaWave’s pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy works by stimulating and energising cells, helping your horse feel better from the inside out.

✨ How MagnaWave PEMF can help:
šŸ”¹ Improves circulation to support tissue repair and hoof health
šŸ”¹ Reduces inflammation and pain in joints and muscles
šŸ”¹ Boosts cellular energy to combat lethargy
šŸ”¹ Safe and gentle for long-term use

Whether your horse is newly diagnosed or already under management, MagnaWave can be a great addition to their daily care routine - especially for addressing complications like laminitis.

🧬 Trusted by owners, trainers and vets worldwide.

How it all started

Hi there! I’m Jo and I started Animal Therapeutics Online in 2008 but my journey began well before then. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s I had a horse with a number of health and soundness issues which lead me to learn a lot about therapies, different modalities and develop a particular interest in natural and alternative therapies (many of which were not so accessible as they are today.) While studying my bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering I also spent a lot of time learning about maintaining equine soundness, and the varying ways to do this. In 2005 I bought my little ā€˜pocket rocket’ warmblood mare (pictured) Acacia Ridge Rejoice (Gem) and enjoyed working with her and training her as a young horse to prepare for her competition career. It was not to be and in 2006 she sustained a large muscle tear which was difficult to resolve. It was during her rehabilitation in 2007 that I wanted to buy something to help support her recovery. I was on the verge of purchasing another massage product on the market when I felt that ā€˜there must be something better out there’. I did a lot of research and I found the Activo Med therapy system with PEMF & Massage (when other products only had one or the other). I also heard that Narelle Stubbs who was the Australian Olympic team vet had recommeded this as the BEST system in the market for Sonja Johnson’s Ringwald Jaguar (Jag) to get him performing at his best at the olympics. These were not available in Australia at the time so I imported one myself and I was so glad I did. While unfortunately it was not enough for my little mare who ended up having some lovely babies for me, it did allow me to manage many of my other dressage horses and deal with issues and preventative maintenance in a way I hadn’t been able to before. It would be a couple of years before I would decide to sell them myself as I was working in a full on job as an engineer, but I felt very strongly that Australians (and later New Zealanders) deserved to have access to the best therapy products in the world! and I was going to help them! So that’s how Animal Therapeutics started :) Now, we have a focus to help everyone achieve their goals and we do that through still providing the best products in the world to help you do that! It’s only one piece of the puzzle, but it is such and important piece and can make all the difference.
