There is no such thing as an impossible script at Younger Optics! 🤓

These lenses allow for patient’s extreme astigmatism: a cyl of -19.00 dioptres in the left eye, and -16.00 dioptres of cyl in the right eye.
Cylinder (cyl) is typically only 1 dioptre or less, although it can reach as high as 3 dioptres.

Regular laboratories cannot cater for a cyl of -19.00 or -16.00 dioptres in their lenses. This is much too high and requires too much precision. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

There is no room for error when dealing with patients who have extreme astigmatism.

This impossible solution has been manufactured by a highly specialised optical laboratory. The laboratory has invested significantly in specialised tools and in training optical staff to work with precise prescriptions like these. 👩‍🔬😎👨‍🔬

This impossible solution means the wearer can now enjoy significantly improved visual acuity in comfort. It is life changing!

❓Why is this an impossible script?

❗️The cylinder (or cyl) to allow for this person’s astigmatism is highly unusual: a cyl of -19.00 dioptres in the left eye, and -16.00 dioptres of cyl in the right eye.

Most people require a cyl of 1 dioptre or less.
Although, it’s not unusual for astigmatic prescriptions to reach as high as 3 dioptres.

However, a cyl of -19.00 and -16.00?
This is extreme and impossible to manufacture!

There is no such thing as an impossible script at Younger Optics! 🤓

These handmade boutique lenses from a speciality lab are a perfect example.

The remarkable lenses cater for an almost impossible script with extreme prism: a total of 60.00 dioptres base out (BO) and 23 dioptres base up (BU) and base down (BD)! 👓

Additionally, severe myopia is being addressed with -26.00 in the right eye and -27.00 in the left eye.

Normal optical machinery cannot make these lenses and that’s why your lab is likely to tell you it cannot be done. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

However, one of the clever labs in the Younger Optics network cracked it! They utilised specialised equipment and a high level of expertise and smarts to create these lenses… and ultimately change the patient’s life. 👩‍🔬😎👨‍🔬

❓Why is this an impossible script?

This script involves correction for extreme myopia: -26.00 in the right eye and -27.00 in the left eye. This alone makes it a challenging script.

⁉️ But that’s not the truly impossible part!
The prism required is the part that’ll likely have your lab saying it can’t be done.

Prism is used to help correct double vision (BVD) by bending or refracting light before it enters to eye. This bending or refracting of light ensures it hits the eye at the correct focal point.

The direction at which the light is bent or refracted is determined by the prism’s orientation – whether that prism is base up (BU), base down (BD), base in (BI) or base out (BO).

So back to our impossible script… the prism in this script has been split into 11.5 base down (BD) and 30.00 base out (BO) in the right eye.
And in the left eye, into 11.5 base up (BU) and 30.00 base out (BO).

This makes the prism required to correct the patient’s double vision a total of 23 dioptres up and down. And a total of 60.00 dioptres for base out!!!

This amount of prism is extreme and is impossible to manufacture.
