Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
Do you get pain in you knee when walking up and down stairs, or when performing a deep squat or lunge?
Or maybe you have discomfort in your knee after sitting down for a long period of time?
If you're wondering why this may be happening it could be caused by PFPS which can occur with overuse of the knee hip and quadricep muscles. It can also be caused by a sudden change (generally increase) in physical activity, which can be related to the frequency of activity (e.g., increasing the number of days you exercise each week) or to the duration or intensity of activity (e.g., running longer distances).
Muscular imbalances weakness or tightness in muscles can often be part of the cause. Sometimes just doing some activation of your medial quadricep muscle and gluts is enough to help reduce pain! Although this is not always the case manual therapy, massage, cupping and dry needling are all great conservative treatment options to help manage pain occurring at the knee.
If you're looking for some extra help with knee pain or discomfort with the above symptoms pop on in and have a chat about how manual therapy can effectively help those with patella femoral pain syndrome.
