Master the Mountain

Master the Mountain Yoga and mindfulness programs for children of all ages We are passionate about improving the physical and psychological wellbeing of generations to come.

Master the Mountain designs yoga and mindfulness programs for children of all ages, and trains childhood workers to deliver them with excellence. At Master the Mountain we believe strength, tranquillity and self-acceptance is the birthright of every child. Research has proven that yoga and mindfulness deliver enormous physical, psychological, social and emotional benefits to children of all ages.

Its myriad benefits include improved concentration and focus; increased self-belief; enhanced language skills; relief from stress and anxiety; improved muscle tone, flexibility, joint health and balance; and a strengthened immune system, to name but a few. Our programs are designed for a range of settings, from schools and childcare centres to hospitals and foster homes. Each program follows a tried-and-tested formula and is tailored for a specific age group. We train educators, SSOs, youth workers, early childhood workers, nurses, OTs and other professionals to deliver Master the Mountain programs in their place of work, and provide materials to support the programs. We also run parent and child classes at our studios in Glenelg and Modbury. At Master the Mountain, all our programs are designed in a way that is accessible and builds upon prior learning. We build our programs around scaffolded, familiar routines: offering children the opportunity to excel and gain mastery in what they do. Our programs are designed and taught by child development specialists who are also trained in yoga and meditation. And because Master the Mountain was founded by a qualified speech pathologist, each program has a strong focus on modeling effective communication: ensuring a successful, enriching outcome for children and professionals.

Whether you are an aspiring yoga teacher or simply looking to deepen your practice, this 4-day immersion is the perfect opportunity to nourish your mind, body, and soul.

This teacher training caters from the curious beginner to the advanced yogi! No experience is required.

During our Yin yoga teacher training, you will learn the fundamentals of Yin yoga, including the principles of Yin and Yang, the anatomy and physiology of the body, and how to use props and modifications to support your practice. You will also explore the energetic aspects of yin yoga, such as the meridian system, chakras, and prana.

“The best way to capture moments is to pay attention. This is how we cultivate mindfulness. Mindfulness means being awake. It means knowing what you are doing.”

It has been said again and again throughout history – no matter how hard you strive to be perfect and get everything right all the time, all you can really ever do is your best and hope that it’s good enough. Somehow, we forget about our best while trying to be the best: the best mum, the best friend, the best worker, the best person. We want to reach the pinnacle of perfection, but end up feeling like we’ve fallen into the trenches along the way. During these moments of disappointment, we must reiterate the truth to ourselves: you are doing your best and that’s good enough.

Connection with the earth and its systems are at the core of Green Therapy/ Ecotherapy. Many clinicians who practice Ecotherapy believe that the earth has a self-righting capacity that operates through complex systems of integrated balance and that if people can harmonise with these systems, they may experience improved mental health. Personal well-being and planetary well-being, as proposed in many tenets of Ecotherapy, are not separate from each other. People’s lives are therefore seen as part of a greater system of interaction.

New Year’s resolutions are a time-honoured tradition: We vow to eat better, to deepen our yoga practice, to meditate daily, maybe even just to be a kinder person. Yet most of us know from experience that keeping those resolutions is another matter altogether.

Once a task becomes habitual, the action itself is triggered by an individual’s surroundings—much in the way an actor’s monologue might be cued by a co-star’s exit from the stage—rather than by a current goal or thought.

The very practice of working with resistance, in whatever form it comes to you, is at the heart of yoga.
“Working with your resistance is where the potential for transformation lies.”

Have yourself a Mindful & Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Mindfulness is all about getting out of our heads and into the present moment and the best way to do that is by connecting with our senses. Why? Because we can't smell tomorrow, or feel yesterday! That's why Christmas is such an amazing opportunity to practice mindfulness.

Be sure to really tune into the sights, sounds and smells of the season. Feel the warm weather on your cheeks, observe how the Christmas songs can take you back and give you a certain feeling inside, take in the smells of delicious food and pine needles in the air. Be present for these things -- this is the real essence of the season.

Let go of any expectations and enjoy some time off to unwind!
